Savant WON the Aussie +130 over China.
Thursday, 14 August 2008
Australia won their first match at the Beijing 2008 Olympic softball competition with a 3-1 victory over host nation China.
The victory was set up early thanks largely to Simmone Morrow, who hit two home runs for the match, in both the first and second innings. Her first home run was scored from the very first at bat of the match. She followed this up in the second innings with a repeat performance, this time with Jodie Bowering on base to give Australia a 3-0 lead.
China were able to claw a run back in the bottom of the third inning, but Australian pitcher Tanya Harding kept their hitters at bay for the most part early on, before being replaced by Melanie Roche at the top of the fourth innings. Roche allowed only one hit in the four innings she pitched.
Australia now has a 1-2 record after three matches, and will be looking for their second win when they confront Chinese Taipei tomorrow.
All eight teams in the Beijing 2008 Olympic softball competition play a single round robin, with the top four teams at the end of the round robin going through to the finals.
