I've only heard of it of teenagers and young people quitting a crappy job like fast food that way. But coming from a large company they don't look out for you so a lot of people feel you don't have to look out for them. There's a lot of jobs when you put in your 2 weeks notice the let you go early. But like I read above you never really wanna burn a bridge

I got fired by text message once. It was an individual owner of a small company.

It was probably something like "I can't work for your creepy ass any longer. You are about the strangest mother fucker I have ever met and tired of your bullshit stories. You spend way to much time on some sports forum trying to make friends. I also can't walk in the bathroom for a week after you go on another one of your Taco Bell feasts."

That of course assumes you manage anyone which well all know you don't

Is he switching industries completely? If that is the case, it probably won't matter. Otherwise, dumb move by him

Found out today he stayed in the same industry. Went to a direct competitor actually

Sounds weak but who knows what type of emotional abuse Cruise put that guy through. Bobby Knight II they call him.

GOD I hate that cocksukker... lolol

My 1 thought is that you must be a horrible boss.. lol... omg just messing with ya man.. but the 1 thing your leaving out of the explanation is, how many hours a week did he work? 60-70??
Super high stress???

The only thing that typically makes an employee go sideways is your treating them horribly? Or work conditions are horrible?? Or their personal life has had a complete implosion...

Good luck man...
For what it's worth, this is the busiest time of the year for me, and I had to interview all Nov. And hire a new girl last week. Ugh...
Training is rough..
GL..

This guy gets it... ^^^^^^^^^^^

Lolol....

He stayed in the same industry... sooooo NOW I KNOW only 2 options is what happend to him... my guess it's either 1. You were a dick boss.. or 2. 70 hours a week, with low pay for what you were asking.

He made 75k a year working about 42 hours in an industry with average 60 hour weeks or more. He also was given a lot of flexibility to miss time for his kids sports and such. And the 75k was guaranteed not tied to incentives.

He worked at a different location then me 90% of the time so there was no micro managing or anything like that.

The company he went to told him he will make 150k with their pay plan and work whenever he wants. They are notorious for feeding people BS and never following through. I have 6 or 7 employees working for me that left there for that very reason.

At some point in time there's a very good chance he wants his job back. The text unfortunately sealed his fate.

sent the text sunday night, giving zero notice ? he did it via text, not over the phone or better yet face to face.

-he is self absorbed, could care less if he leaves you in a bind. likely a blessing. move on, don't second guess yourself. wish him well. if he has the audacity to use you as a reference , be fair- good and the bad

If he asks for his job back, make him get on his hands and knees in front of everyone , then ask for it, then YOU give him a Rusty Trumbone,

Then tell him no. Hahaha

Nah I don't burn bridges. Wouldn't stoop to his level. His job simply wouldn't be there if he ever asked.

Did you text him back?

what would you have done if he showed up at work Monday saying he lost his phone?
