Credit checks aren't done to see if you have done anything bad to apartments, they are done to see if:
1. You can afford the place based on your income.
2. You haven't done anything that would make them think you might not pay.
Nothing more to it than that. I have heard some stories around Vegas that some places are requiring a year or at least six months rent in advance or they won't talk to you. Then again these are nicer places going for fairly cheap rent all things considered. With so many investors buying up houses and then just happy to get their costs covered, you run into deals like this. These guys don't live in town and don't want to hassle with the place so they cut you a deal if you work with them.
I don't think anyone has a problem getting an apartment these days in most cities. Vacancies are high because of so many homeowners. You really have to put the landlord into doubt about your ability or willingness to pay. Bad credit won't count against you unless you were just blowing off a lot of bills or showing a lot of recent chargeoffs. If you have a job or can show you made in your last job well above what you need to afford the place most will rent to you with maybe an extra months deposit.
