Question About A Mysterious Phone Call

Hello Forum Members. As many of you know and can see, I’m a longtime member on this forum and trust many of you to give me your thoughts and feedback on a recent situation concerning 2 phone calls I received.
About 2 weeks ago I had a number call my phone from the same area code that I live in. I answered the phone and it was a recording. It was a lady, talked very monotone and said in so many words...
”Hello, if you are receiving this call it is because you are being investigated by The FBI for illegal gambling. We have seen that you have made transactions through your bank account to gambling sites and you will be charged. Stay on the line and someone will be with you shortly to discuss this situation. Do not hang up.”
I waited maybe :30 seconds & hung up. I called the number back & it sounded like a fax.
So two weeks passed and nothing else.
Then yesterday morning, I get another call from a local number, same area code as mine and again, it was a recording, a lady with a monotone voice basically said the same thing, but added...”All of you phone activity and banking activity is being tracked by The FBI. If you do not stay on the line, press one, and wait to speak to someone, we will be moving forward with our case of illegal gambling against you to your state & local authorities.”
I simply hung up. I spoke to a friend who works for a cell company and he said, “don’t worry because I can’t hardly do my job because half of it is dealing with people that get Spoof Calls. That’s all that’s happened to you and I seriously doubt if The FBI was after you, they would do it like that with a recorded call. They would call you live or show up in person at your door.”
He looked up both numbers that called me....both my area code.
one was from West Columbia, SC(30 Mins away) and the other one was from Washington DC.
I’m just Alittle on edge because I hate WORRY, DOUBT, or ANYTHING Hanging Over Ny Head.
I went to my bank yesterday and all my accounts are open, no problems, none of them flagged.
The bank manager said, “Sounds Like Some Scam or Fraud Attempt To Me!”
Has anyone else ever had this happen to them & what your thoughts?

100% scam. Ignore it.

And I'd suggest never even answering a call on your cell phone if you don't recognize the number. If it's important, they will leave a message. If you deem it important, you will return their call.

But...I ask, like I asked my friend...How do they know I Gamble On Line & How Do They Know I’ve Made Transactions Through My Bank?

He said it’s because These People Are SO TECH SAVVY!
All they do & their job is to sit on the computer and FISH
and dig for information. They get your IP Address or Cell Info
they can see any and all sites you’ve ever visited, searched, or
spent any amount of time on.

*Note: I Only Use My Cell Phone & Some Times My IPAD To Place Wagers. I Don’t Even Own A Computer*
But I Suppose Every Device Has An IP Address That Runs Through The Internet?

Total scammer. As someone else mentioned, don’t ever answer calls if you don’t recognize the number/contact.

Offshore scam books look for anyway to make money. The sell their info, be it phone number, contact, email, etc.

Also, no fed govt entity will be contacting you by phone with charges. That goes for any IRS, Social security, etc collection or fraud thing. If its federal and by phone its a scam. that simple

Definitely a scam. I have had a similar call from "the FBI" alleging a criminal investigation in progress.
That was months ago; no follow-up ever happened. I simply hung up.

A couple years ago, I was looking at a porn site (Pornhub) and suddenly, the screen froze and posted a
serious-looking message alleging a violation of obscenity laws! It advised the "matter can be resolved by
immediate payment of a civil fine" totalling over a thousand dollars....I just did a forced shutdown, and
never heard anything more about it!

Scammers today are STILL preying on the gullible. Be alert! (<)<

Not sure what the protocols are today, but the FBI did call me once. It was a real live agent who called me and eventually I had to go in front of a grand jury.

That was about 25 years ago, however. So I'm not sure of today's protocols but they sure didn't contact me via recording.

Scam. Just ignore it. Eventually they'll quit calling.

I actually got a call from the FBI / DOJ about 13 years ago regarding online gambling. They left a voice mail and the phone number was Wash DC. I got ahoild of the agent a few days later. They said they were going Processors (Netteller) and they didn't care about about individual gamblers. He said he would have to charge 1/2 of America if that was the case. He said at that point he had enough statements, so he really didn't need anything form me. He assured me I wasn't in trouble and was pretty nice. It freaked meabout a bit and my friends didn't believe me until i played them the original voice mail.
