It seems to me that Wild Bill knows more than you do. Quebec is by far the richest province in Canada? What a joke. Alberta and Ontario both have higher per capita GDP's. In absolute numbers Ontario's economy is almost twice the size of Quebec's. Quebec is a net receiver of transfer payments from the federal government (i.e. more money flows into Quebec from the rest of Canada than flows out).

Quebec will never separate from Canada because they have it too good. Their language and culture are constitutionally protected, because of inequitable bilingualism laws they essentially run the federal civil service, and it is virtually impossible for a non-french Canadian to be elected Prime Minister since they could expect to get exactly 17 votes in the entire province (which still makes up 25% of Canada's population). It's time les Quebecois realized how lucky they are . . . don't rock the boat boys because it's you who'll suffer if Canada breaks up.

When the last anglophone business leaves Montreal then Quebec's per capita GDP will drop even further. All the dynamic economies are in Toronto and Vancouver these days, with Calgary and Edmonton seeing some modest growth thanks to energy prices. What does Quebec offer other than a cheap place to do business? The weather is horrible, the weather and language situation make it next to impossible to get talented people from other parts of the country or world to relocate there, and then you have this group of Separatists that try to make the people believe that they fleece Canada even if they are independent. Fat chance of that. No one else in Canada wants to leave, how could you think it would break up?
