Right, I gave UM the hotbed element, but they're lacking as a university in the other areas as we agree. Again, I just don't think they've underachieved on the whole like so many others.

Curious as to why you think UNC should make this list?

Success all comes down to money and UNC has a lot of it from their alumni base to their merchandise sales to everything. They should be able to upgrade facilities, hire big coaches (Butch Davis), they should have tremendous fan support and sellouts, they are a nationally recognized university, great academics, play in a power conference, yet never do anything in football.

They are the flagship university of North Carolina. Most flagship universities of each state are competitive: South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, etc. Why is North Carolina so bad?

Between the Carolinas and Virginia they have enough talent in their area.

30,000 students.

Very popular school. Basketball team has provided a lot of exposure. Baseball team does very very well. How has Wake Forest pulled ahead of UNC? Half the people on this planet couldnt even tell you what state Wake Forest is in.

UNC has been one of the doormats of ACC football. They should be far better and competing for the ACC Title year in and year out.

Every single team around them is good/competitive: Clemson, South Carolina, Va Tech, etc. North Carolina is probably more popular and has more tradition than all of them as an overall school and athletic program (with the Hokies having the better football tradition).

Yeah, I was thinking their basketball should help their foots, but those other points are excellent as well.

Kentucky's in a similar position to UNC, but they've been making strides lately.

A&M is largely a agricultural and mechanical school, anyway not sure if many have been to college station or not but the atmosphere is alot different than people think. And more different than most schools. From what i hear from friends who are alum from other schools, going to A&M games (at kyle field) are much better since they are not pelted with things throughout the game when they wear their schools colors.
Anyway beyond that, yes A&M football has gone down hill. Its going to take more than a couple years to get it back on track im sure.
Pitt the past couple of years have to me, been kind of a joke. Not the whole game but hanging onto the lead or trying to come back.

BTW: Ive never been into agriculture or the military
Linebets...What is the general consensus opinion around Texas A&M about HC Sherman this year? Favorable or poor? I know after the first game loss to Arky St. it couldn't have helped. I just haven't heard too much news, good or bad, about this coach since he got hired.
