sorry, it's a fact. The world turns to us for leadership when a crisis arises. They want our military and our money, our charitable giving, our support and we rebuild their countries too, like yours.
What is a fact is that America almost without exception only fights when it has interests in the region. Time and again parts of the world where a "world police" would be needed are ignored because they are not important to America.
And the help is also usually only given with a look at the own interests. As you mention it, for example Western Germany undoubtedly profited a lot from American help after WWII, but those who believe this help was given simply because Americans are just so good-hearted are fools or idealists. The American politicians knew full well that they needed Western Germany as an ally to stop the expansion of communism and that there was a substantial danger that it would turn communist, too, if kept in poverty. Had Germany been without any interest for America it would have received very little, if anything.
I'm not saying looking out for your own interests is wrong. What makes me sick is the arrogance of those Americans who believe and try to make others believe that what America does comes solely from a love for the world and that the world should be grateful for this.
But, Willie, I know that you choose to see things differently, and I've had too many lengthy and pointless discussions with you (even about this very subject, I believe) to start another one. Believe what you want to believe, if it makes you feel good.
