If you dont mind giving up a few luxuries you can find a really decent apartment in $400. For 5-800 you can get a really pimp pad. I used to live two blocks away from the presidents family house and paid only $700 a month. Had an open air bar in the center of the house, three bedrooms three baths and a huge as living room/dining room. I used to ride my bike around the house naked.

All the tico-style places I've seen/lived in were under $300... especially if it's a 1bdr. The last two 2 bdr's I rented were $220 and $260, and I rented a 4 bdr house for $320 for a few months (but they kicked me out pretty damn quick).

Thats true Fuze, I just dont want to get anybodies hopes up for what they might consider a normal house. Alot of cement and not alot of trim or other details for that price but definatey you can get something decent for way less than 3. I am currently paying 220 for a newer but small apartment, I wouldnt exactly say I live in a centralized location though.
