I think if everyone got along perfectly it might get a little boring...
People that are willing to put money on their opinions tend to be very aggressive by nature.
With the presence of football season, people will get even more aggressive. In the other sports, I dont feel out of line jumping in a thread and asking someone "did you overlook this?" regarding a wager on a particular team. In football, it's pretty much out of the question. If your opinion is wrong you never hear the end of it, and if you are right you just made an enemy by showing someone up, and this attitude tends to spill over to the other forums as well Sept to Jan.
Some people actually like to be bashed. Typically they fall under the passive-aggressive personality type, and dont need love--just attention of any type will do, and being ignored is not an option.
The only problem with these types of people is that they tend to overlook the harm they may cause others in the process, or just dont care. Personally, I dont like having to weed thru unfounded posts about top-level sportsbooks folding, or little league baseball betting. You never know who cruises thru and uses this type of material to push their agenda thru congress. Hell, if I was a lobbyist I would. When you are knew to the forums you have no clue what is true and what is garbage. All you see is a name and number of views, and you tend to think that whatever has the most views is probably true. If you had never heard of 'sportsbook x' and read some of the BS lately, would you as a newbie consider posting up there? Chances are, you'd end up at stiffbook.com and that is what a lot of us are trying to keep from happening--in our own special ways. I think a lot of it is an effort to discredit those who offer unfounded rumors.
Sometimes things get out of hand, but I think the mods do a good job at letting people sort things out on their own. The creation of the Rubber Room was an act of genious, I think it helps keep people civil in the other forums as they know if things get too heated that's where they will end up, not that it's a bad thing. Only the strong survive in the Rubber Room, somebody recently lasted oh, about 10 minutes.
