All Sports On Demand(DJ Franks)went belly up a couple of months ago & was the service my friends were previously using.Doc Sports source The Sports Page i believe had already gone out of biz previously.I called ATS(possibly the last remaining pager source?)but the guy who answered sounded like an unenthusiastic used car salesman! Not sure i can even trust those scumbags with my credit card info as well.My buddies are in the restaurant biz & don't have the luxury of constantly looking at scores and odds especially when they are slammed with customer's orders.DJ Franks service had decent odds updates(especially at halftime). One of my buddies was also a part-time bookie & that pager was a life saver at halftime

still not sure how it would be difficult to pull up the live odds on a smart phone. if you wager online the lines will be up, if you bet with a local i am sure you can get him to text you the second half lines

plus you dont look like an idiot with a pager attached to your belt!

I don't even know what a sports pager does..

You know with apps, like score, you set notifications on the games you want to send you scoring alerts....

Also, if you believe that this is needed, create an app if there's not already one.

Unless of course you live in a Cave. lol

the only other thing I could think of, all these guys have Flip Phones and No access to the Internet

I'm getting older BUT not dead yet!I have the luxury of being in front of a computer practically all day so access to scores & odds is not restricted whatsoever.I don't have a smartphone because i don't need one. When i was in management several years ago we had to hammer out a cell phone policy.Employees were only allowed to use their cell phones before & after business hours and at lunchtime.Otherwise they were not even allowed to have them out.We also installed software that blocked access to questionable sites like gambling & porn.My buddies were the ones that asked me to hook them up with sports pagers. One is a chef who isn't supposed to be using his cellphone if they are busy. The pager allowed him to quickly glance to see how his bets were doing, halftime lines & updated odds for games that hadn't started yet.The other buddy is a restaurant owner who also booked bets. Both of his cell phones are ringing off the hook at certain times so the pager give him updated & halftime odds at a glance

i still dont see how a pager can be quicker to look at scores than a smart phone with an app
does the pager just have scores scrolling thru? i would guess cuz you cant set a 1994 pager up to get a specific score, maybe a rolling scoreboard what the fuck do i know
but an app you can click on and see a live update within seconds.
wtf am i doing here

When I saw this thread, I thought someone bumped an oldie from 2000. Jesus...pagers? Hilarious. If they really worked a few months ago, I'm shocked the service existed that long.

I do remember getting one of these in the mail for free back in the day...late 90s I think.

Damned if I remember what the promotion was or who it was from, but at the time, it was the greatest thing ever. Different screen sections would flash to let you know of any game score or line updates. At the time, there really was no such thing.

It is believable bc u need to realize people living out in the country. I have family like this. Verizon or Comcast will not put lines in for a small amt of ppl. These ppl don't care and don't wanna pay satellite

The DJ Franks Sports Now pager(post 31 above)had around 20 different channels.Separate channels for final scores, current scores & updated lines from multiple offshore/Vegas books.Premium service sold separately included access to a sharp money move/sports tout channel & a halftime lines channel.I gave my free Bookmaker/DSI sports pager to my chef buddy BUT they had already shut down access in my city a few years ago prompting the move to pay to get the DJ Franks pager. My sister offered to give me her used iPhone a while back because she had upgraded to the latest model but i said i had no need for a smartphone.Talk & text on my Sanyo cell phone is all i need.A divorced neighbor living alone in a two story house with a Masters degree in physics just told me THIS SUMMER he was switching away from dial up internet which absolutely floored me!He also asked me just last week if i knew anybody who wanted his 20+ year old color TV set as he had just ordered a new HDTV.I wondered if that's why his wife divorced him several years ago because he was too cheap to upgrade to the latest technology?
