I used to do 100 situps every night for a year. All I had to show at the end of the year was strong stomach muscles...and a beer gut. The guys who say you have to change your diet are right.

I heard several criticisms on the radio of these "Ab Cruncher" machines. The critics said that when you eat too many calories, the fat gets put on the "spare tire" for men. You can do all the conditioning of your stomach muscles but that will just give you strong stomach muscles with fat on top. Reduce your caloric intake to get rid of the fat around the mid-section.

Ok then my major concern about this diet would be energy!!!!

I still want to go to the gym, how do you keep your energy levels high or even average!!!! There is nothing worse than walking around feeling weak!!!

Secondly food product would you recommend that is easy to fix but at the same time heavy enough to substitute as a full meal!!!! (outside of beef products and poultry products and no fresh veggies, one can only eat so much of that stuff before diving head fast into your purina dog chow)

Funny thing is that for the last 3 days i had just changed my diet to straight up subway!!!! and right now i am belly full of a foot long slab of white bread..(my luck they didnt have wheat today!!!)

Motivation is for sure the hardest thing to keep when your working out. Im 24, so I have a million reasons to be motivated to workout. In your case, I would have to say that illness and confidence within yourself should be a motivation. Obviously as you age your body is gonna age with ya and your amino acid count starts going down. The amino acids is what keeps your muscles strong. If you excersied and ate right, you wouldnt have to worry much about that. Plus you always wanna look good whether its for your wife or for yourself. I always thought that self confidence from working out was BS, but after 6 months of this, I feel like I can pick up any damn girl I want lol.

The best thing to do is workout with a friend. He pushes you and you push him

yea thats always a tough one. I would have to say...

Breakfast:
  • Oatmeal
  • White Eggs
  • Fiber cereal - or organic cereal (with skim milk of course - maybe throw some cranberries in it)
  • fruit
Lunch:
  • You could have any sandwich on WHOLE GRAIN wheat bread
  • Stay away from takeout places - make your own food
  • Make a salad with olive oil
  • Tuna
  • Low Carb protein bar like the Odyssey Protein Bar (I usually have this with a salad that way I can get all the vitamins and shit)
Dinner:
  • Chicken Breast with Brocolli
  • Brown rice
  • Steak with no fat
  • baked potatoes
  • Maybe a protein shake with a salad afterwards (I use Myoplex Lite)

The wheat bread at subway is no different then the white. Actual wheat bread is made from whole grains. The wheat bread from subway is still bleached...but if your gonna eat there, always get the veggie delite

The most important thing to this diet are (in my opinion)
  • Do NOT eat before you sleep. In fact, make a time limit for yourself as to when to stop eating. Some poeple cut themselves off at 9pm
  • Do NOT drink soda or anything with sugar in it. Make yourself like the taste of water - it`ll flush your system right out. A few years ago my aunt stop drinking everything but water. She drank the acquired 64oz. a day and 3 months later the doctor found a tumar in her that was covered with fat that luckily water flushed out.
  • You cant eat fast food. I never really understood why fast food was so bad until I started doing my own research. Believe me, everytime I drive by a Burger King, I drool for a whopper but it has 22GRAMS of SATURATED FAT. Thats just not good...So stay away from fast foods at all costs
Here's a site about the health benefits of water: http://www.betterwayhealth.com/drinking-water.asp

water prevents that...it takes your hunger away

maybe if the government didnt stuff this food with MSG, we wouldnt have this obesity problem that we have in this country

Did you just call me fat, old and diseased?:lolBIG:

I am not man, and let me describe by beer gut "problem" I am a size 36 in the waist my budding beer gut is say 37 and may be a critical girl would say its 38!!!! You would notice it underneath my shirt. I am a good 212 lbs (yes i lost those two lbs since my last post) which weight i would rather not lose but it seems i will have to if i want to stave off the gut!!! Its not huge or ugly or embarrasing, i just dont want to get one this early in life plus i suffered from a real burn out gambling this past basketball season and decided i should get back in shape and try to live a healthier life...

but i am not sickly old and diseased...Just a guy who wants to live right and i enjoy working out!!!

Ps... I think i am gonna stick with the subway diet another 2 weeks being that i lost all of two pounds since i last posted here (2 days ago...) If i can sustain that hopefully i will be down to 200 lbs before the dead of winter sets in!!!

One more thing, about energy, i meant that fuel one needs to lift the weights and do their works outs...Low carb diets are notorious for leaving you weak and moody as hell!!!!

it must be different for everybody because i drink well over 100 ounces of water a day...im on creatine so i gotta keep drinking water...if i wasnt on creatine, id be drinking the usual 64 oz

maybe its with age to. When i was in boot camp (ft knox), they MADE us drink 10 cantines worth of water throughout the day....they didnt care if you werent thirsty and those cantines held a lot of water - and some soldiers still passed out from the heat

its also good to remember muscle weights more than fat, so as ur gaining muscle it will seems as if you were actually gaining weight but only for a few weeks as long as u keep working out

I have something similar made by Nautilus but far less expensive. Cost is about 15 bucks and you can get it at most sporting goods stores. Jman is right. It works you good and depending how far down you go to the floor it hits the entire abdominal region. Fits easily into your gym bag and you can use it anywhere. Just make sure you have a towell or mat for your knees. Otherwise they take a beating as well.
