so basically he turned down a d1 school but is good enough in bball to get a scholarship to a d2 school

if being a professional athlete is not his dream, why threaten his brain? sounds reasonable enough to me. as long as he can get the grades he needs for his desired career, can't really knock on him.

Eventually less and less kids will play at the amateur levels. Unless some of the helmet technology can improve...

As long as there is pro football there will always be 10 Wes Welker's for every Chris Borland though. Being young, rich and famous is hard for most people to pass up. Most of us felt pretty indestructible in our youth, imagine being an elite athlete? Just multiply it...

If the kid is thinking long-term and doesn't wanna fry his brain, more power to him. We live in a very prosperous country, pro sports aren't as much of a "way out" as in other parts of the world. A lot of other career avenues.

If you have a shot at making millions or even earning a degree with free schooling, you do so.

Spending 30 hours per week preparing for football games isn't free. It's a much higher cost than the non-athletes are paying

Yeah right. In exchange for that, they get given grades no matter if they choose to earn them or not. Rarely is a guy kicked off a team ( especially a star) as long as he is playing football.

Look at Jameis Winston. No way that moron was studying like other kids, He had football/ baseball year around. Yet, they always kept him eligible. In that fools mind, he was even eligible when they suspended him for a game.

I highly doubt Manziel went to class much. He barely seems to make it to practice at times. I saw that where I went to college. Take summer classes where football/ basketball players are in. They condence all of the material and know the favorable professors.

They sure are.

If you ever run into a problem or injury in which you think it might truly affect your health, THEN you consider giving it up...

if you were ever in that position to do so, then it would be your decision. money isn't everything, to everyone.

Cant compare the game and safety equipment today to 20 years ago. I coach 6 year old football and head contact or lack there of is a main coaching point. Equipment is also so much better.

A college education can open doors for you and it being free;

If they aren't in class and aren't earning degrees, exactly how is this "college education" opening any doors? The only doors that are open for these people is because of their football talent. And the time and effort required to do well at that comes at a higher cost than what any other student pays.
