Trying to hit an obviously bad line to cheat a book out of a few dollars is just fine...

so long as you are ok with them cheating you and you having no recourse.

Guys, play fair. In the bad old days of this industry, some books would close your account and confiscate your winnings for this kind of behavior. Feel fortunate that you weren't booted out, they had every right to ban you.

Oh, and sportsbooks- why not give me a nominal reward every once in awhile, like a free 1/2 pt or $5 parlay or something, when I report a bad line?

If a book wouldn't allow me to cancel a bet I made by mistake then they should honour a bad line bet.

TT, I disagree. I expect that they would allow you to cancel a wager on a -700 line when it is clearly supposed to be +700. That is the issue. The number CLEARLY did not reflect the true line for the event. In such a case, all wagers get cancelled, good or bad for the book.

I am not a big fan of cancelling, but this is one situation where I certainly have no problem with it.

D2, my point was some books wouldn't allow you to change your bet if you made a mistake. For example, if I took Rockets -3 but intended to take Jazz +3, some books wouldn't allow me to change it.

If they wouldn't allow me to change my bet in the above scenario, then they shouldn't be allowed to cancel a bet on a "bad line"

but TT.. isnt this a bit different???? the line was a BAD LINE IMO is different then if you see a side of -3 and bet it only to realize you wanted the +3 on the other team

entirely different IMO

Therefore nothing good can happen by betting a bad line, so don't do it ! You won't get paid.

Dante, they made a mistake and I made a mistake. However, they are allowed to correct theirs while I can't?

What is fair about that?

some books will allow a change, if no line movement and done quickly.

TT, I see your point...but the LINE you bet at -3 is not a obvious badline...I know you see the difference here

truthteller makes a good point, fact is, if the bookie will not let you make a change if you make a mistake & report it within seconds then that is bad customer service....

HOWEVER,

the answer truthteller is that 'two wrongs do not make a right'.....

You should simply stop playing at a book that does not offer good service...

I have found, however, that it is very difficult to argue 'PLAYERS RIGHTS' on these threads as most who post here alot seem to be more in favor of 'bookie rights' than player rights... not sure why?

Dante,

In the above scenario Rockets -3 is an obvious bad line for me. Actually it's a bad bet if I my intention was to bet Jazz +3.
