I see several obstacles for the Wings....

1) It is amazingly hard to repeat in hockey simply because of the toll that two cup runs takes on a team. It is very hard to play that much hockey at that intensity level for 2 years.

2) The Red Wings' two main free agents played just as much hockey as the rest of the Wings last year. They are no more rested than the rest.

3) Most Important -- The Wings have the 27th ranked PK in the league. That can't fly come playoff time.

Personally, I would love to find a prop bet that said a bottom 4 seed in the West makes it to the Conference Finals. Playoffs are going to be crazy in the West.

Bushay, what about the Sharks? Looks like they might get home ice and the Sharks are 2-1 vs the Wings this year, both wins coming at home.

Well, just my opinion now. But after watching the Wings handle the Sharks 6-0 a while back I know that THEY know they can still beat anyone in the league and that THEY are the team to beat. Having said that....I give the Sharks the best shot as no.1 they've been knocking at the door the last few seasons, paying their dues and most importantly their coach knows the Wings better than any other team. Nobody from the East concerns me as the Sharks do. Another factor is their goaltending is better with Nabokov but the Wings proved last season and 98' that you can definetly win with mediocre goaltending by playing fantastic team defence. The Wings limit their opponents very few shots, especially in the playoffs. What's important once the playoffs begin is the seedings. No one can deny the Wings path to the cup last season COULD have been much more difficult than it was. I think that all 8 seeds in the West this year will be capable of advancing far.

thanks for the reply, the Wings still are the champs and thats saying something, but having said that, Sharks look to be the class of the west, maybe i'm wrong, have beeen many times before. That 6-0 whoppin' the Wings laid on the Sharks was alittle misleading as the Sharks were on a road trip and if memory serves me right they were pretty tired 3 in 4 and that sort of stuff, but the Wings did hand them there ass, Wed. should be a good match-up, wonder who will be in net for the Wings. I agree the west is going to be wild, hope the Oilers get in.

Detroit now has a 10 point lead but after their loss today coupled with Chicagos win Chicago has 3 games in hand.

Of course I know they have to win those games, but it is certainly stressfull.

The good news...Detroit up by 20 points and suddenly have a goaltender.

The bad...Phoenix needs 19 points in 12 games.

They need to go 8-1-3 versus...
Anaheim, 3 games
San Jose twice
L.A. twice
single games against...
Vancouver
Edmonton
Dallas
Colorado
St Louis

Just win baby.

Win the next three and you can always recoup some of the initial investment.

Ugh... such a tease!

Alright, c'mon Coyotes... who by the way, do look like a better team with all the young talent they brought in at the deadline.
