Your original statement was about a sports figure cheating with the drug use.

My original statement was about how others view one persons drug use compared to another persons. It wasn't about Bonds cheating, it was about people accusing him of doing so

When Bonds was using steroids, MLB made the choice to do nothing about controlling their use, despite the fact that they had already been a part of the sport for over 10 years and a part of other sports for 50 years. Because of that choice, any player using cannot be considered a cheater. When that point is brought up, the response then becomes "well, they're illegal"

We can go round and round with this. I guess it's all how each individual views the use of recreational drugs or using something that Knowingly is going to give a person an edge.

And for the record I have followed Zero of the Bonds drama. The MLB as a whole is to blame for that era as much as each player that used.

Are these the same people that line up to watch a Johnny Depp or Robert Downey Jr. movie?

I hope these people aren't into music and buying albums because the industry is full of drug use..

How can someone boycott a product because of a sponsored figure.. Kind of baffling.

Isn't Phelps, or any other Olympic hero being pushed as a role model to kids? He had no problem taking the money because of it. If he wants to smoke dope, then he will lose sponsors. I don't totally agree with it, but if half of the public think so, what company wants to piss off half of their market?

Metallica, Johnny Depp or anyone else in the entertainment field are not catering to kids as role models. Pretty big difference.

I don't disagree that that he was supposed to be a role model for kids.

I'm sure almost every kid has seen the Pirates of the Carib movies.

This is another topic that can go for many rounds. The statement I am making though is drugs are everywhere. True? How can people boycott a product that is driven towards their kids but turn around and say it's okay for them to support people in the industry that are known drug users (past or present)

Isnt that also setting a bad example for thier kids?

If he doesn't want to be a role model, fine. No one is making him. He had a past slip-up with a DWI before he was a star. People overlook that and we give second chances. When a person is taking money to act a certain way and doesn't follow through, this is what you have.

This stupid, doucebag should have his endoresments stripped an should NOT be given a pass just because he's 23. If you people don't already get it, he played the media for fools. He's already got his DUI and promised he'd change. He acknowledged he's a role model for many and said he'd abide by those standards.

I feel the media is goin light on his ass.

I realize he has to play the stupid, disingenuous apology game and play by the puritanical rules of our lame ass country to placate the hypocritical masses. But the guy smokes weed, SFW.

Cristiano Ronaldo bangs hookers with impunity, including one who admitted to dealing coke, and wrecked his $400,000 car going 100 mph yet Nike doesn't seem to mind, nor does the Portuguese media, British media (other than from a salacious perspective) or Manchester United. Americans need to focus more on themselves, less on others and be more concerned with one's own character.

Why do we care? It isn't his job to raise our children.

Sometime you have to stand up and not be just one of the crowd and be your own person.a lot of people that start at his age smoking pot in the teens and early 20 are still smoking at 50yrs etc. What a loss being a adult and have to buy pot.ck

Yeah, I guess that when you are 50 and getting drunk and driving is way better, or smoking cigarrettes when other people are around you and they can't avoid the smoke (maybe your family)... oh its legal, so its way better than smoking pot by yourself. Ignorant.

Out of all recreational drugs, marihuana is the safest one out there if you can only stick to that.

Wonder why the public slammed Michael Vick for being "accused" of having marajuana at the airport?

Cannabis of course is in fact the least dangerous to an otherwise healthy adult. There is no lethal dosage and the withdrawal symptoms for even chronic users are minimal.

As of late this evening, all of Phelps's major commercial endorsement sponsors have stated they will not change any part of their relationship with him based on his being photographed toking off a bong.

Because that is what happens when you become a celebrity, call it athlete, actor, politician, etc. When you become a public figure you basically give up the right to do certain things. If it had been you or me carrying that marihuana, no one would give a fuck, it would've never made the news. We have that luxury, we can fuck up and not be all over the news. These guys can't.

There are certain things that are legal and are completely wrong, and there's other things that are illegal yet they do no wrong if you are a responsible person.

Ignorance is bliss.

Here you go, a quick summary and a link if you wanna see for yourself. Try to read a little more.

http://www.saferchoice.org/content/view/24/53/

1. Marijuana is far less addictive than alcohol.

2. Deaths from the two substances. There are hundreds of alcohol overdose deaths each year, yet there has never been a marijuana overdose death in history. The consumption of alcohol is also the direct cause of tens of thousands of deaths in the U.S. each year.

3. Alcohol is one of the most toxic drugs, and using just 10 times what one would use to get the desired effect can lead to death. Marijuana is one of – if not the – least toxic drugs, requiring thousands times the dose one would use to get the desired effect to lead to death. This “thousands times” is actually theoretical, since there has never been a recorded case of marijuana overdose.

4. Long-term marijuana use is far less harmful than long-term alcohol use.

5. The United Kingdom's Science and Technology Select Committee considers alcohol far more harmful than marijuana.

6. There has never been a documented case of lung cancer in a marijuana-only smoker, and recent studies find that marijuana use is not associated with any type of cancer. The same cannot be said for alcohol, which has been found to contribute to a variety of long-term negative health effects, including cancers and cirrhosis of the liver.

7. Studies find alcohol use contributes to the likelihood of domestic violence and sexual assault and marijuana use does not.

8. Studies find alcohol use contributes to aggressive behavior and acts of violence, whereas marijuana use reduces the likelihood of violent behavior.

9. Alcohol use is highly associated with violent crime, whereas marijuana use is not.

10. Alcohol use is a catalyst for domestic violence in Denver.

11. Alcohol use is prevalent in cases of sexual assault and date rape on college campuses. Marijuana use is not considered a contributing factor in cases of sexual assault and date rape, as judged by the lack of discussion of marijuana in sexual assault and date rape educational materials.

Not saying anyone should just go out there and smoke marihuana. But I do think that labeling people as bad because they smoke just because it's illegal is a very dumb thing to do. If you have the right to go out and get drunk, why can't someone just enjoy pot, they are not harming anyone plus its safer. People have to be responsible, it comes down to that.

Phelps has let down both sides of the community.

No doubt this guy knows how to smoke weed.

I had to quit for employment purposes after 17 years, but I still sing the praises of this great narcotic.

Kellogs has just dropped his ass and he has been suspended...and he loses his 1750 per month stipend for training purposes...pretty hefty penalty for the kid....too bad he isn't a pro athlete and get away with his screw-ups...

I thought Kellogs just didn't renew his contract. It ends at the end of Feb. The US swim team was under sponsorship that ended in December and they were not renewed either.

It's not a narcotic drug, though law enforcement has routinely classified it as such over the past 40 years. They classify all illicit substances as "narcotics".
