Saudis controlling USA golf ? think that is a stretch
No, it is not a stretch.

A foreign dictatorship with enormous wealth, power, and cunning leadership is OK with you? You trust them to play fair?

Not me.

Think, once they have everything settled and in order, they can lower the tournament purses, lower than pre LIV PGA purses.

They paid off some greedy ignorant and unpatriotic PGA golfers to come aboard the LIV to set this all up, and used them to take over.

If SA were to get into American football they would not go about it the way you describe .

They would not buy NFL teams
They would start a new league like the USFL of the 80s and offer insane contracts to high profile players to defect .

It would make no sense for them to buy NFL teams
The 1970 AFL-NFL tactic you suggest would not work in this era; too expensive---even for the Saudis---too many operational and logistical problems compared to the simple game 53 years ago. The players would not go for it they would see through it, getting 55 players for teams would be prohibitive. And it would take too long and be too obvious and easy to defend.

Saudis are very clever and the best tactic now is to start buying teams at 3-4-5 times the current market and then close in on the entire league.

I am not predicting this, basketball would be easier to conquer, I am just opening some people's eyes, showing what is possible.

Other NFL owners would never approve the sale.

Also I would highly doubt billionaire owners would go for this...

Buying millionaire golfers to play in ur league is much easier and cost effective.

Look at it this way. Saudi's couldn't "buy" Tiger Woods.

Not going to "buy" NFL owners. Just would never happen for a multitude of reasons.

Unfortunately, IMO NFL owners might very well approve of the sales, if, they, too would go for the premium... sure they are billionaires but $12B for a $3B cheap Bengal team, for example, would likely do the trick, and if several franchises were in play, the owners might see the writing on the wall.

To boot, the NFL would almost certainly be challenged legally if they block sales like this with such a premium involved.

AND again, basketball would be much easier, so would hockey.

USA is for sale, has been for a long time, but the momentum is a hockey stick curve UP.

This only really works when players are in individual sports and not team sports. Would be multitudes more difficult to impossible without starting ur own league which would take a hell of a of time and effort.

Sure if they wanted to challenege something like the UFC, the ATP/WTA....that would definitely be possible. Where u can get 20-30 people right away and start your brand.

They are an important US ally. Tell that to Joe Biden. He's too shortsighted to understand the geopolitical ramifications of his phony condemnations.

Get it now?

This has nothing to do with our government being the same as their government. Jeesh.

What does this have to do with governments being run the same way? I never said or insinuated any such thing. Please stick to the specific issue being discussed.
You think Biden bad mouthing Saudi Arabia is going to jeopardize our relationship with them?

The relationship goes both ways. They need us (probably more) than we need them

We are strategical allies, we are not cultural allies

Think these ignorant and greedy golfers can leave LIV after a couple of years. Then what do the Saudis have ?

1. McIlroy: Hard for me not to feel…like a sacrificial lamb

Joel Beall for Golf Digest…“To those who sensed that McIlroy might be feeling betrayed after Tuesday’s stunning announcement between the tour and Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, well, you’re right.”

  • “It's hard for me to not sit up here and feel somewhat like a sacrificial lamb and feeling like I've put myself out there and this is what happens.” McIlroy said Wednesday at the RBC Canadian Open.”

  • “McIlroy, who spearheaded a player-led initiative that restructured and saved the PGA Tour, said he was not informed of the tour’s decision until Tuesday morning and that it wasn’t PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan who told him but PGA Tour board member Jimmy Dunne. When asked if he still had confidence in Monahan, McIlroy took a pause before responding, "I do."

  • "I've dealt with Jay a lot closerthan a lot of those guys have. From where we were a couple of weeks ago to where we are today, I think the future of the PGA Tour looks brighter as a whole, as an entity," McIlroy said. "What that looks like for individual players in terms of keeping a tour card and bringing players back into the fold and then that sacrifices other people, that's where the anger comes from, right. And I understand that."

Just to give you some insight into Saudi take over of the pga tour/European tour.

Strategy:
To duplicate F1 racing model with worldwide pro golf.
All team and franchise concept.

Team franchises will be auctioned off.
e.g. $500 million x 20 teams = $10 billion

Each team like all major league sports will sign players to a guaranteed contract plus bonuses.

The total annual purse could become as high as $500 million and grow to $1 billion for all

Good luck to those from LIV who want to come back to the PGA tour after 2023…they are going to need it….I can envision them having a difficult time without some compensation to the players that didn’t bolt…kind of compare it to the black Sox scandal where they threw games and were found not guilty….but after the verdict they were barred from baseball and not allowed to come back….there will be no red carpet rolled out with a welcome back sign…
