police are a necessary evil. All authority is a necessary evil to a certain extent, because its existence is due to the fact that evil exists aggressively to subdue the good in life.

I don't think that its insulting to say that police are a necessary evil, it certainly isn't the same as saying that those individuals who becomes cops/pigs are evil themselves..

But i happen to agree with kaya, many are power-trippers who had issues with self-esteem/image earlier in life.

not saying that power-tripping fools DON'T take their jobs seriously.

NYC cops DO have a sense of humor, and they don't bust you for senseless shit like small town/city cops do...

sphincter,

In a perfect society there would be no need for cops. Therefore they are a necessary evil, that doesn't mean all cops are evil, but that goes without saying.

"a question....are you a college kid,kaya?.....or a criminal....all this anti-authority crap is so silly..."

No, not exactly a college kid, not really a criminal either lol. IMO questioning authority is an important civic duty, if you blindly accept authority you open yourself up to being stipped of your rights.

As a high school student I was picked up one night for suspected drunk driving (turned out I was under the legal limit and only charged with under-aged drinking). I was held in custody by a small town, red neck pig for nearly 4 hours. I was never read my rights and about the 3rd or 4th time I asked to call my parents the prick screams, "I said I'll tell you when you can use the ****ing phone!". We brought this all up with my lawyer who explained that the whole rights thing becomes cloudy with minors (I was 17). I definately question that.

kaya...sorry for getting "edgy"....i was once hit in the head with a thrown nightstick after being locked up for "assaulting" a guy for groping a girl i was with at a club....

of course,i was "evading" the officer with the good aim at the time
icon_biggrin.gif
....it could have killed me.....18 stiches.....when the paddy wagon came, the officers stood me behind the wagon and i stood for 15 minutes while they taunted me...daring me to run or do anything they perceived as reason to rough me up(of course i was cuffed...fat chance)......i was tired and a little buzzed,so i bent over and laid my upper body and head in the back of the wagon.....

the cops immediately grabbed my legs and slid me into the wagon on my face....those wagons have grated metal floors....i had no skin left on the side of my face.....

but, i did disobey the officer...resisted arrest,basically....that was the last time...and i deserved it....

i don`t feel badly about rodney king taking his beating,either....anytime you do something that has the potential to cost innocent people their lives, not to mention assaulting or disobeying an officer, you deserve some punishment...

i have since made it a policy to obey the police....and have had no problems whatsoever....let `em do their thing...sort it out later...it`s easier that way...

even on the reality t.v. shows, you see the police arresting some guy,and the family comes out assaulting and harrassing the police....

let them do their jobs...and sort the crap out later....safer and easier...

are there some a-holes?.....maybe more than the usual occupational average?....probably so....the nature of the job....the ability to wield authority...it probably does draw some jerks....i can`t really argue that point...

but there is much pressure on cops nowadays....with civil rights activists and lawyers waiting to pounce on every nuance of police action and procedure.....

i wouldn`t want the damned job....

IMO, this is were you are dead wrong, if anything I find police brutality to be a worse crime than resisting arrest.

It's like this time (again in high school, halloween I think) this cop says after catching me on a foot chase, "why you running boy?", I said, "well you were chasing me weren't you?". Just seemed logical to me.

I wonder if they used pepper spray on this 11-year-old girl charged with sexual assault.

Probably arrested for something that would have gotten her a psanking and a stern talking-to thirty years ago.

Damn the man!

PS. sphincter, anyone who thinks they *deserve* to be assaulted by a cop, deserves it, but not like they think they do.

phaedrus.....keep your nose clean....and you`ll never have a problem....

i teach my kids to respect the police.....an incident like the afforementioned will never happen with my children....i learn from my mistakes and i make sure the lesson is passed on...

being antagonistic to authority figures just because you can is stupid, dangerous and unnecessary...

reactionary....maybe...i call it growing up and accepting responsibility for my own actions....a concept that some on this forum have a very difficult time grasping...

jack`s quote-

"this must be the single most reactionary thing, and imbecille too, i ve hear in a long time."

what i said was"imbecille"....then jack follows with this gem....

"SEND THEM PORK COPPERS,
TO THE PERSIAN GOLF,
SO THEM ARAB PEOPLES,
CAN EAT SOME TASTY PORK"

beautiful....lol...

i guess they don`t have police in greece..or if they do,the people disrespect and antagonize them at every opportunity....if doing the right thing and being respectful to officials trying to do a very dangerous and difficult job is being subdued, then so be it....i`ll "cop" to that....since i`ve become an adult,i have more important things to worry about than trying to play the "forever victimized militant".....

try and accept responsibility for your own actions...it may be difficult at first, but it`s actually quite cathartic...

by the way, imbecile is spelled with only one "l"
