yeah I know it used to pay 80% if the guy didn't play a minute but every policy is different and insuring a 20mill contract is probably harder than a smaller one so they only try for 40-50% coverage.

The Knicks paid Amare the max and couldn't insure he knees, we foundout why shortly thereafter.

Where do you pick up this contract info with insurance and everything? I've never delved in to contracts of athletes.

oh it isn't avail on every player. Just remember reading that about Amare.

Also there has been a few instances where a player could comeback in like March or so but the team sat him out the whole year so they could have insurance pay the contract. Probably why the premiums are worse now.

I'm not sure but in the NFL I doubt they insure guys besides a few of the blue chip guys on the team and the QB since most NFL player investment tend to be pretty low risk.

Well it is in so many ways. I always enjoy a pretty good Olympic USA basketball team to kick ass but now things like this makes it more difficult for players to make the decision to join and go for the Gold. It will just serve as one of those doubting factors that plays in a players mind in the decision making process.
