Bielema just getting paid while biding his time for the Iowa job to open in a couple years. Ferentz wont be there forever and I think BB is next in line. It's much easier going from Arkansas to Iowa than it would be being in the same conference (Wisky to Iowa).
Now I can see him holding out for Iowa. He has delusions of grandeur if he thinks he can win consistently in the SEC West running trench warfare football against better recruiting schools. With that style of football they'll always be inferior to the Bama's and LSU's. And now he has other teams to deal with like up and comers Auburn and Ole Miss. If it was the SEC East it would be a different story. Iowa State could win in that division.

Main reason Andersen left UW: his wife HATED Madison. Wasn't her culture. When an opportunity arose to get back West, he felt obligated to her to leave.
And yes, the Badgers will keep running the ball because that is what they can recruit--linemen. UW has been a top 10 program for two decades--a top 10 not a top five-- because they understand their limited recruiting base and tough admission standards. Wisconsin had the Heisman runnerup in Melvin Gordon, a Wisconsin kid. That won't happen often. Texas, Florida and California probably have 5-10 Melvin Gordon-type kids come out of HS each year. A kid from Dallas is honoring his committment and coming to the UW next year.So go on with your weanie spread offenses that produce Johnnie Football QBs and national titles.

It will be the same old offense for Wisconsin. Three yards and a cloud of dust. Chryst did not exactly light the NCAA Fooball world on fire at Pitt, going 19-19 in three years. He went 6-6 in each of his three regular seasons there and 1-1 in his bowl games. A whole lot of nothing. Wisconsin is really headed in the wrong direction, but as long as Alvarez is the A.D, do not expect a turn-around for Wisky. This hire is great news for Iowa, Minnesota, and Nebraska.

Actually, "3 yards & TWO clouds of dust". The Badgers historically were never in short-supply of running backs (Heisman winners Alan Ameche and Ron Dane) and this new Kid now on the roster to mention a few. The Big10 historically was always Michigan and Ohio State and Ohio State & Michigan, most years with a few teams working their-way into the mix every now and then. I felt that Wisconsin
was slowly (but surely) replacing once "Might Michigan as a perennial Big10 power during the past 10 years or so. We shall see if they
can sustain their recent rise to prominence. (The waxing they took in the conference championship game didn't help their image any).

It's funny people criticize the 3 yards and a cloud of dust offenses, but how many of these hurry up no huddle offenses have won the national championship over the years? For the most part it's been the pro style and west coast offenses that have won it. If you can't run the ball and play defense your not going to be winning any titles..

For the most part, it has been SEC schools that have won the NC year after year. Wisconsin simply cannot compete with Ohio State or Michigan State if all they re going to do is run. Like I said, Chryst is certainly no steal. He is an average HC at best. We all know that Alvatez still wants to run the show at Wisconsin, so he hires a "yes man" to be the new HC. Pathetic. Alvarez will be the death of Wisconsin football at this rate. Wisky has not won a Bowl Game in the past 4 years. Let's see what Alvarez can do in the Outback Bowl against a 4 loss Auburn team.

In defense of Wisconsin, they have done pretty well despite their recruiting that has ranked 40th, 57, 57 & 33 the last 4 years. In other words they won their division with what averages out as the #47 ranked recruiting class.

Alvarez might be the death of UW football. But Alvarez is THE reason the Badgers have been the most successful Big Ten program since the mid-90s.

None of those teams had the hurry up offenses of some of these modern day Mike Leach style of offenses that we see in the Big 12 and some teams in the Pac-12. In fact I remember Urban Meyer saying in an interview after they played Oklahoma in 2008 that they might adopt a faster paced offense at Florida in future games because OU's fast pace was so difficult to play. The Sooners that year had the best HUNU offense that I've ever seen, and they still got beat. Don't mistake the no huddle with the hurry up. Just about everybody plays the no huddle of some kind these days. But most run many less plays per game.

That OU team was the pinnacle of how to run no huddle. Amazing how they lost that game, really. Anyway, back to your point about running the ball and playing good defense, all four of those teams offered up as rebuttal (Fla 2006/2008, Aub/Ore 2010) were run heavy/good defensive teams, which just validates your point even more.

Run lee run is actually right.... I completely understand the point that Gosooners is trying to make but I think the better argument would be to forget about the no huddle/uptempo facet and speak more directly about the spread and spread option vs pro style, west coast, run and shoot and heavy formations of the old big 10.... The tempo and no huddle aspects are basically just extensions of any offense, it's just a two minute drill the whole game. The reason more teams are doing it is strictly because it fatigues the defense requiring backups to play more and allows the offense more potential possessions in the game.... Thats it..... Yeah it confuses a defense because it doesn't allow them to properly get matched up but most of thatbis caused by fatigue and substitutions first...the spread offenses and spread options making the QB a weapon with his legs and making the defense choose where to go is what ultimately had reshaped the game... The triple option has always been around and will remain so because it's assignment football and hard to prepare for... The spread option is an extension of the triple option with run/pass attachments and more playmakers in open space....auburn ran it, oregon ran it, florida ran it now a lot of teams are doing it.... We all know they are so it's pointless to list them all....but to wrap things up, the spread offense is more difficult to defend than any other offense... Mike leachs air raid offense doesn't work well because although they throw for 500+ every game, they trn the ball over 2-4 times a game and can barely run the ball... The QB is never a threat to run and because mike is completely offensive minded it's hard for him to ever get any good defensive players into his programs.... Therefore they are always 7-5 and 8-4 type teams.... Good enough to make a bowl game but never a complete enough team to win it all....

on on a side note, arkansas has something brewing down there in the sec west.... If Beilma would have had a real qb capable of hitting a stick route or a simple TE out/square in, they would have won the sec west and we all would have been praising him as the best coach ever to walk into the sec west and beat Nick saban, les miles and the others in that division. Think about how many games they lost by 7 or less because allen threw a costly pick, or missed targets all game by 5-7 yards.....??? When they find a capable qb it's gonna be tough sledding to beat arkansas

The one killer for these HUNU offenses is the pressure it puts on their defense. If you can score in less than 2 minutes your defense is right back out on the field. Only a few teams in the country have the quality depth to be able to get a team like that to the championship game. I'm not saying it can't happen, I'm just saying so far it hasn't happened yet with a true Mike Leach style of offense. If you can run it for 200 yards per game (usually a requirement for winning the NC) then it increases your chances. What makes me curious and a little excited this year is the 4 team playoff and the possibility of having to play one of these HUNU teams (Oregon) with only one week of preparation. This is where it could get interesting. As for Arkansas, if they can start stealing a few of LSU's and Texas A&M's defensive recruits from that region, they have a chance to make some noise in the SEC West. But defense will be Arky's shortcoming if they can't get some of those blue chip defensive players. I love their offensive scheme.
