No one is saying it is gone but you gotta gradually reopen at this point. Lockdown is to avoid overwhelming healthcare system, implement social distancing and buy time for treatment really. That is about it.

We were never gonna be able to do what some of the eastern european/asian countries are doing with contract tracing/scaling testing/lockdown for a variety of reasons. We'll have to see what happens but you can't lockdown in America for longer than 45-60 days with this little blood on the street.

Gradually open? Yes I’m with it. We are in the first phase in Maryland. Which is like dentists appointments. Super essential shit.

Im with that.

But pictures that I have seen in Colorado indicate people don’t give a fuck. No masks, no social distancing. Not a worry. If they are doing that, how do you think Texas is handling things?

I mean I think we all know testing is the biggest thing, right? Isn't that why the White House is testing everyone everyday? And sports leagues are testing their players everyday. I’m afraid if normal society doesn’t get that special treatment....then how can anyone say it won’t be prevalent in the Fall? The number of deaths are supposed to be under control by sometime in August. But that doesn’t mean cases. It’s such a delayed effect type that people will just start to ignore it. Watch. People already growing tired of mitigation efforts, clearly. We know the deaths come later. Even if they slow down...you have to test and you have to continue to trace the virus. Yes I know it is impossible to test every American. But, you can continue to not hold concerts or sporting events without it being highly restrictive. Refs wear gloves or some shit. Also continue to encourage curbside pickups, continue with capacity restrictions, no public gatherings including sports(20 maximum people). Schools should require masks when they open.

You have to continue to do things to mitigate the spread because clearly it isn’t gone yet.

Well, it isn't going to be back to normal times but Americans only going to sacrifice so much.

Even if the cases/hospital rates swell up, people almost have to find that out for themselves rather than have the government tell them how it is going to be. That is just how America is, vast decentralized land with bottom up governance rather than top down, limited social cohesion/shared sacrifice, limited social shaming. New York is a far and away land to someone in Texas or Georgia or Florida.

June/July will be interesting.

If the number of deaths are supposed to be under control in august then no reason to wait. reality is the true fatality rate of this thing is much much lower than people realize

and THATS why the # of deaths will settle by then btw

I'm amused by ambiguous comments from people when they say it's "too early" or "gradual". Honestly, what does that even mean? I erred also earlier. We actually have roughly 2 deaths per every 100,000 people in our county. For those that are math challenged, that means that 99,998 people out of 100,000 don't die of the Coronavirus. But hey, don't get crazy now. Let's take this thing slow. Maybe we should re-enter the workforce in say....January! The problem with these vague people is they will never give you an actual date (kinda like their idol Fauci). They usually will tell you "we just need to wait and see". I think they want you to wait and see how long it's going to take you to either go broke and put the country in even more excessive debt than we already have.

Just reply to a post of mine if you want to reply to something I said. I don't bite.

Obviously there aren't going to be mass gatherings and social distancing is going to be a part of American life for the foreseeable future, that would fall under gradual. It is a subjective term, no need to go all crazy with it.

I wasn't referring to your post. If I was, I would have quoted it. It was a generic comment I've heard from countless people.

I agree on that wait part....until when?

You have ignorant trolls post shit just to get a reply but you rarely see them set a date.

And even if they do, guess what, we will still have China Virus deaths.

So they make ignorant statements like “what if it was your mom”, well wouldn’t that same statement apply if we didn’t do shit until Jan 2021, June 2021...the date doesn’t matter...

We have no easy answer but the ignorant Trolls aren’t here to give any solutions other than wait, wait, wait...blame Trump, blame Trump

Keep up the good fight BFL :103631605

Oh, I did use the exact term "gradual"

I hope you're not thinking you have a copyright on that word. If you do, you can buy your own island. As for the amount of time I hear that word and "opening up too early"...well, you'll have to stand in line.

How is the masks scene in Texas

are people wearing them

If I had to guess, Travis County (where Austin is located) is probably 70%.

Williamson County (where Zit and I are at) is probably like 50%. Williamson also has more in terms of wide, open, spaces (as the song goes).

Everyone wearing them here in San Antonio, even when it was 95 last week. Saw someone turned away from Home Depot yesterday cause he didn't have one. Shit I sold something on facebook marketplace and guy showed up in a mask.

I'm right down the road these days too.
Ya know, I've lived everywhere. :)

Willie, Gasman, BFL and HarryCaray (and FZ), sounds great to me.

Willie, Gasman and I hit New Orleans almost 2 years ago I think? I had my teenage son w/ me at the time, so I couldn't party too hard - but those guys
are class acts, and great to hang with.

Well, I would like to hear how gradual opening changes anything and what it exactly accomplishes?
The Politicians never explain any reasons why they do things, just trust me.
Here in MA Charlie "Parker" Baker has and still is making decisions based on how he feels or what he things is right.
He has not made decisions based off of scientific data, facts, or protocol

He is now pushing testing as a big thing, contact tracing as a big thing.
Funny thing is when I go and read infectious disease experts, doctors, researchers, etc they say that wide spread testing of the public is not really needed now, as it does not accomplish anything and contact tracing is useful when a pandemic is first starting so you can contain it, not when it is in full swing.

Also he is telling people to wear anything over their face to prevent spread when none of those things actually stop the spread
Locking people in their house does not stop the virus and it actually makes people weaken their immune system and more unhealthy
All of the above is all proven scientific fact and all he has done is go against all of it.

Also the amount of people who will have this virus and die from it are not going to change
Hiding from it does not make those numbers change, it just makes it happen over a longer period.
All scientific facts.

Cracks me up and is sad that many just repeat what they hear without doing their own research or have any thinking skills
to analyze things and data. Even among my friends they think all kinds of things, they don't believe me that a face covering actually does anything
They just say well then why is Charlie telling us to wear one? They tell me I must be looking up fake sources as they thing the government knows best
like little obedient lemmings
