His reaction time must have completely sucked. He was at least 13 so it is not like its a toddler who accidentally got in the way of a speeding train.
I've got one for you. My old man owns a company that does contract work for Amtrak. Basically we service the train when it gets to its stop. We clean the train, do airbrake tests, and mechanical work. One of the stops he has is in West Quincy, Missouri. The train left Chicago one day in route to WQ. Apparently there were 3 teenagers ages 12-14 and hey were riding a go-cart and they got it stuck on the tracks. They saw Amtrak coming and ran away from the tracks. one kid at the last second decideds to try and get it off the tracks again and runs back onto the track. He was standing in the middle of the track with his back to the train trying to get it off. The train hit him and the go-cart. The go-cart went flying and he went under the train.
I got a call on my way to work at the train station where I live from my Dad. One of the big wigs for amtrak called my dad and told him what happened. He asked my dad to get in contact with his employees there and have them powerwash the train because there was blood, flesh, bone, etc all over the train. Needless to say there wasn't much left of the kid. its really sad, but i feel the same way. How stupid can you be!
I have story after story about train accidents and I can tell you that a train always wins.
