OT: Post a Video of Your Favorite COVER Song

so did Phish cover the song without permission?

or did the have permission to cover it live, but simply not post any videos or have it in their albums?

enquiring minds want to know.

I remember during the last election that a candidate (can't remember who) had a theme song and the artist didn't want that candidate to have their song as his theme. I believe artists join a group (ASCAP?) and when their song becomes published they can't pick and choose who uses it. It would be like an artist not wanting a particular radio station to play their song because the radio station said something bad about the artist. So Phish could cover the song without Prince's permission.

As far as Prince not wanting a song on Youtube that another artist performed, he may have written the song and has some copyright control since copyright infringement (on Youtube) is different than playing the song legally.
