Some awesome information/opinions provided, thank you to every single one of you that responded! The town we were looking at is Pflugerville which I believe is near Austin. Job growth was solid, low crime, homes are cheap & good schools. That's pretty much my checklist as a Dad. Lol My wife has a ton of family spread out over Texas & they all had good things to say. Maybe I should do more research on Washington. Anybody have other recommendations besides Tex/Wash? Lived in Las Vegas for 8 years before, wife went to school at Arz St so we were trying to avoid those 2 areas & try something new.

Wacko....lol, that's what people were saying when I was down there....haha

I was down there on business. It was about a dozen years ago. David Koresh(?) and his compound were still on people's minds

I would have figured it was the compound you were staying at....

That whole scene was crazy how it played out. You had a lunatic locked down with a handful of other maniacs with assault rifles. News surrounded the compound along with 100 ATF scattered about. Then we got to see the whole thing go down on National TV. ATF climbing on the roof and shooting through windows. It was like battle of the OK Coral. Awesome.

Grew up in the midwest, no thanks to that again.

Love the Southern/Southeastern US. Carolinas would be a great place to live, Charleston is my likely next stop. I'm in Alabama right now and love it.

And get ready to witness the nastiest, most aggressive driving that you will ever encounter. The freeways resemble Talladega, with as many as 15-20 oversized pickup trucks and SUVs lined up doing 90+, 3 feet off of each others bumpers. Road rage is a real problem, the big pickup trucks are driven by some very angry rednecks.

Yup, it's fuckin crazy. Literally a major turn-off to me moving there (and I was given the opportunity to move to San Antonio area 3 years back).
