Easy just tell them your a racist and you think everyone should fry. You will be dismissed no problem.

That might get you out of actually serving, but you still have to show up the first day, which is the real pain in the ass because they never pick you anyway. I'd guess they don't select one in ten.

I like the idea of blowing it off, and claiming to never have received the notice because it wasn't sent registered or certified mail. It's very believable where I live, as the mailpersons here don't give a shit and put the mail in the wrong boxes regularly. I'd get a PO box, but it's still the same USPS dummies boxing the mail, just a clerk instead of a carrier.

I think you could avoid jury duty if you moved constantly.

mr21 has the best idea. Just take the jury notice and rip it up and throw it out. They have to prove you got it and they won't do it because it costs too much. If they use certified or registered mail, you just don't pick the letter up and it gets returned as unclaimed. They can't make you pick it because you can claim you didn't get the notices.

Well you'd have to sign for it. I believe you can find out who sent it before accepting it, then refuse it. I wouldn't do that... it might get a notation as being refused. They just send it regular old first class here, so I'd be comfortable in claiming I never got a piece of FCM, but leary of refusing accountable mail coming from the state wanting you to perform jury duty.

They can't prove you got regular mail.

I misread you a little. I forget, does the notice indicate the sender ? If not, then you would need to find out what this mail was, wouldn't you ?

Doug- Up in the right hand corner of the notice is a spot for the sender's name, so you can tell who sent it. Even if you're home and the mailman asks you if you want to sign for it, you just take the notice and tell him you'll pick it up later. You'll then get a final notice with a return date which is the date the post office will send it back as unclaimed. This way you actually didn't refuse it. You just didn't get the notices about the letter. Wink wink.

There was a time when the best move to keep your time in court to a minimum was to postpone your service and request the day after Thanksgiving. Typically, you would go in and they would have a very short schedule of cases and as long as you don't get seated on a trial, you get dismissed by noon. Sadly, it seems that this has become a popular request date and not all can get it.

Hundreds of thousands of Americans have died to protect our version of freedom, but if a couple days away from your routine is too much to sacrifice, I understand.

I have been called for possible jury seating next month in Lucas County.

Will you be in trial next month?

Of course like the thread creator, I dont want to do it, but I'm going to serve if selected.

Will be my first time if selected.

I have a few set for trial next month in Lucas County. Maybe you'll get my guy with four Aggravated Robberies. We have a good system where the judges let the court administrator's office know how many jurors are needed for the next day, and then potential jurors can call in for a tape-recorded message to see if their pool is needed.

Woof, hope you are having a good time at the GAF. I am a little under the weather, so I am sitting this one out. If you know anyone who runs into Oregon's finest after a few too many, drop me a line.

Usually they don't have enough manpower to police the thing, so what I do is throw the damn thing away and nothing will ever happen.
