I concur. I lived in Tampa the year that all of the hurricanes rolled through Florida and only lost reception once for about 5 minutes. Their customer service has always been very accomodating. Would definitely recommend.

Thats bullshit

their cs is very bad if you have problems and want them to send a technician

DTV is better than cable, more HD channels

i had a lot of problems because of trees in front of satellite but all is ok

go for it

Forgot to add:

DTV HDDVR boxes are hit or miss I have gone threw 2 of them so far, so it's miss for me.

Installers are theeeeeeeeeee worst mf'rs, complete fucking hacks who could give a shit about their job or how they install DTV equipment. The last guy who came and "installed" my HD dish was a complete POS. He bitched the whole time he was at my house. I was ready to either knock him out or tell him to leave, but I gave in and let him finish cause I didn't want to wait for another guy who would be just like him (they are all alike) Anyone who has DTV installed will tell you the installers are the WORST part of the experience.

Thennnnnnnnnnnnnnnn, there's the NFL Ticket. If you get it make sure you never NEVER want to cancel, because they won't cancel it even if you call them and cancel they renew it because of a "glitch" in the system. I had to threaten to take legal action and also threatened to take my story to a local news channel if I ever seen it come on my bill again. Guess what? This year, there was no charge, lol..

Moral of the story, gather information, make a choice and deal with the consequences.

Overall, after 2 years of service I give them a b+ because I only have 2 choices here and Time Warner (in my opinion is much worse) is worse.

if you want HD you have to have a satellite as big as a car on your house or your patio

if you want their on demand feature you must purchase a DVR receiver for $200 (which are garbage by the way...read up on em) and a seperate connector piece for $100 that connects to your high speed internet..also you must sign a 2 year contract

the customer service reps are in india...dont know english...and really dont know shit

if you have ANY problems and dont pay $60 a year extra on top of your bill for the direct tv protection plan you will be charged $75 for a service call...for even something as little as replacing a LNB on the sat which takes about 5 mins

not to mention the whole sginal issue depending on trees..weather..and line of sight

all sports packages are automatically renewed and even if you call to have them canceled they still will be renewed and it will be a bitch to get the credit back

with comcast cable you get DVR...on demand service...HD..and the same channel package for the same price as direct tv

and if you have a problem you dont get treated like you are a burden like you do with direct tv

there is no customer service center for directtv...you will NOT be able to talk to someone in person if you have a problem...only people you can deal with is their call center in india

also with cable you wont have this GIGANTIC DISH that is required to view their HD programming...also...some HD channels get the ext721 searching for sat signal at different times of the day

I just recently canceled directtv and went back to cable...Im very happy AND the picture quality is actually sharper than the directtv IMO

also...their receivers all all refurbs...I was told this by a supervisor when one of my receivers went bad...they did a swap...and the system AUTOMATICALLY RENEWED THE CONTRACT FOR ANOTHER YEAR

I had to haggle with a few supervisors and explain to them all I did was a swap and not an upgrade...and why should I have my contract extended if they sent me a refurb receiver...they do this so they break and you have to renew your contract

needless to say I cant believe they let me out of the agreement...I got lucky...but do some searching on google and you will find that it is really hard to get out the contract...as they try to keep you under contract forever

dont listen to drones that tell you directv is the best...cause those are the people they love...the ones who send their payment every month with no questions about anything

also...any credit card or debit card you put on file with them...is kept by them...and may be charged at ANY TIME for fees owed even if you didnt authorize it...they say its in the contract that they can do this

Im done with their racket...

This imo is false. Years ago I had DTV & never once did I lose service due to rain or even snow. I went through multiple blizzards & still had no issues. The only time I had issues is when the card I programmed went down & I would have to reprogram it in about 2-3 minutes.

I can confirm that this is legit. You'll lose your signal in a good rainstorm(or one that is to your south), and also if your dish gets a good dose of snow(get out the ladder & the broom).

Their tech support sucks big time. I wasted hours upon hours on the phone with them troubleshooting a problem and eventually found out that one of the inputs on my receiver had died. Hell would have frozen over before their tech support figured it out.

We would not be in business if it was not for DTV. Tin is correct about the service but we have no choice, it is a monopoly.

I guess it depends on where you live. I live in the Northeast & my service never went out even during Nor'easters, blizzards, rain storms, etc....

I live in long island out east and weather does have a factor on my direct tv. Bad snow or rain i tend to lose hd channels some times everything. All in all better then cablevision other then the lack of on demand which i heard direct tv was getting. My only beef with direct tv on the sunday ticket is tht they have all these differnet options as far as super fan, hd so on.I have had direct tv for 3 years and for the money I pay between nba pass hockey, baseball, college youd think they would come up with an all inclusive super pack hd everything .Pisses me off i have hd boxes and have to pay extra for hd nfl sunday ticket.

This poster is drunk. The HD DTV dish is about the same size as their stadard dish. I have DTV and have no complaints. I use my computer to order and cancel premium channels.

Correct-all you need for HD is a "Triple LNB" dish, which is 2ish feet across. You'll also need an HD receiver.

I would like to know more about FTA though as it has been mentioned as a suggestion to me a few times. What does one need, the pros & cons, what can one actually get channel wise, etc...?

You get every channel that Dish network has for free. Including all PPV's.
