Funny and ironic to read respected gamblers posts regarding life-saving Omega 3's and Fish Oil. I guess the reasoning is that gamblers know odds and know research. I live in Chesapeake Bay area and can say that Coal Fired power produced air born mercury pollution is a major concern to the seafood industry. Fish with tumors growing out their sides don't sell. Beyond the stupidity of warnings cautioning hungry consumers to consume only limited amounts of fish products per week is the dumb ass faith that pollutants and environmental contaminants can be 'filtered' out by our friendly pharma chemical 'more expensive brand' industry. The sad laugh to the second degree (something like a calculus derivative) is that we need detailed labeling and protection from contaminated and possibly dangerous health pills like fish oils.

That is why many of us find all the disinformation so funny.

The cheaper fish oil capsules are made from anchovy and sardines...little fish at the bottom of the food chain do not have problems with mercury and PCB's.

Large predators at the top of the food chain... like salmon, have mercury and PCB's.

The most expensive fish oil is made from the most contaminated fish. :think2:

If you take fish oil, one should not have over 3 drinks in one day.

In fact, even if your not taking fish oil, one should not have over 3 drinks.

also, is it worth it to pay a few extra bucks for the "tasteless" pills, or is it just another marketing ploy?

I wholeheartedly disagree.

One can find PHARMACITICAL GRADE fish oil for around the same price as not............so why not take it?

FH

I think you're being hustled just a bit by that very misleading term.

"Pharmaceutical Grade" implies that the fish oil was processed through some kind of FDA-approved system and signed off on by licensed pharmacists.

In fact, neither is true regarding the three products you mentioned, or any other brand of fish oil for that matter. At present, the FDA has little or no say on either the makeup or the marketing strategies for these products.

For the record, a fish oil that is using molecular distillation, third party testing, and lists the species of fish they are using is indeed more important than the "pharmaceutcal grade" label.........so in that respect, I agree totally with what your stating.

This is one reason why I believe the NORDIC NATURAL brand that I listed is the top choice of the three I listed earlier.

Good point. Which is why I only eat Nutrilite supplements. Since the 1930s, they've controlled their product from the time the seeds hit the ground until the end products are packaged for delivery. No buying products or ingredients from third parties.

Brother, call me before you head up to the top of that Sunshine Skyway. I'll hurry over and talk you down. Then we can have breakfast at the ol' St Pete Waffle House on 54th Ave N
