First, a majority in the House of Representatives - 218 out of 435 members - must approve articles of impeachment previously approved in committee.

Consequently, the current make-up of the House favours Mr Trump. As it stands, Republicans hold 238 seats while Democrats hold 193. (Four seats are vacant.) That means 25 Republicans would need to be persuaded to vote to impeach Mr Trump, which seems an unlikely scenario.

Then it goes to the Senate, where a two-thirds majority vote is needed to convict the president and consequently remove him from office - even getting the 60 votes needed to overcome a filibuster is difficult for either party these days.

This is really the gist of it, which makes any arguments for this case laughable.

Russian President Vladimir Putin suggested on Friday that the hacking of Hillary Clinton's campaign during the election may have been a CIA-engineered false flag operation designed to implicate his country.
'Hackers can be anywhere,' the Russian leader told NBC News' Sunday Night With Megyn Kelly.
'They can be in Russia, in Asia... even in America, Latin America. They can even be hackers, by the way, in the United States, who very skillfully and professionally, shifted the blame, as we say, on to Russia.
'Can you imagine something like that? In the midst of a political battle. By some calculations it was convenient for them to release this information, so they released it, citing Russia.

Putin was asked about the assessment shared by the US intelligence community that his government had orchestrated the hacking of senior Democratic Party officials as part of a concerted effort to help Donald Trump win the presidency.

Earlier on Friday, Putin said that Trump had run a better presidential campaign than Clinton and that US intelligence agencies could have easily faked what he said was false evidence that Russia had hacked the Democratic Party.
The alleged hacking by Russia has deepened a political scandal which has focused on whether Trump had improper ties with Moscow, something he flatly denies.

Putin, addressing the St Petersburg International Economic Forum, said on Friday that the hacking accusations were nothing more than 'harmful gossip' which he complained was damaging international relations and the global economy.
He said he had personally reviewed the US intelligence reports which made the hacking allegations against Russia, and that they contained no meaningful evidence.
'I have read these reports,' said Putin. 'Even in these reports there is nothing specific but only assumptions and conclusions based on assumptions.'
The idea that the hacking had reportedly been carried out from Russian IP addresses which constituted meaningful evidence of anything was absurd, he said.
'Where are the finger prints? IP addresses can be faked. Do you know how many specialists there are who can make it look as if your children sent something from your home IP address? They can fake anything and then accuse anyone. It's not evidence.'
Putin, who is keen to repair battered US-Russia relations and is expected to meet Trump for the first time at the G20 in Hamburg in July, said Trump had simply run a better campaign and better connected with voters than Clinton.
He said her supporters were now trying to blame Russia for their failure.

Clinton on Wednesday launched an all-out assault on Trump, claiming he must have 'guided' Russian efforts to keep her out of the White House. She is seen above speaking at the BookExpo 2017 at the Javits Center in New York City on Thursday

'But the problem is not with us, the problem is inside American politics,' said Putin.
'The other (Clinton) team miscalculated. They don't want to admit their mistake. It's easier for them to say that they are not guilty, that the Russians are the guilty ones for interfering in our election. It reminds me of anti-Semitism.'
Visibly irritated by having to discuss the matter, Putin was equally forthright about denying separate accusations that there had been some kind of secret deal between Moscow and the Trump team before his inauguration.
'There was nothing concrete, zero. It's just hysteria. Should I give you a pill?' Putin said to a moderator who asked him about the matter.
Clinton on Wednesday launched an all-out assault on Trump, claiming he must have 'guided' Russian efforts to keep her out of the White House.
She spelled out a detailed theory that her campaign had been hit by the Russian hacking and that it used its agents to spread 'fake news'.
But she added: 'The Russians in my opinion - and based on intelligence and counterintelligence people I have spoken to - could not have known best how to weaponize that information unless they had been guided by a specific group of people. By Americans.'

More proof, they're assholes, they're idiots, they're genetically inferior

They're obviously missing genes that give us common sense and / or integrity

We need a pill people, we need to find a cure

I know what you're saying Willie. That's why we must be understanding and patient of these special people as they are coping with a mental disability.

President Donald Trump wishedJames Comey good luck as the fired FBI Director prepares to testify at a Senate hearing where he will get questioned over whether Trump pressured him to hold back FBI investigation.
'I wish him good luck,' Trump said, when asked by a reporter at the White House whether he had a message for Comey.
Comey does not plan to testify that Trump tried to obstruct justice when the two men spoke about an investigation of a top Trump advisor, according to a new report.
'He is not going to Congress to make accusations about the President's intent, instead he's there to share his concerns,' a source told ABC News, which previewed Comey's thinking ahead of Thurdsay's blockbuster Senate Intelligence Committee hearing.
Instead, Comey will speak about 'what made him uneasy' in his conversations with Trump during the early days of the administration.
Comey apparently was concerned enough about those talks that he kept detailed memos after each of them, and he is certain to get asked about those memos and whether they back up his account.

Former FBI Director James Comey's testimony is getting wall-to-wall live TV coverage

During one such meeting, the president reportedly told him: 'I hope you can see your way clear to letting this go, to letting Flynn go,' and vouched that Flynn was a 'good guy.'
That was a reference to an ongoing FBI investigation into now-fired national security advisor Mike Flynn, who is being probed for his Russia contacts. Flynn just turned over hundreds of pages of documents to the Senate panel in connection with its probe.
The New York Times reported on the encounter, based on the Comey memos.
Comey does appear prepared to contradict Trump's claim, stated in writing in the letter where he fired Comey, that the director had assured him he wasn't personally under investigation.
'While I greatly appreciate you informing me, on three separate occasions, that I am not under investigation, I nevertheless concur with the judgment of the Department of Justice that you are not able to effectively lead the Bureau,' Trump wrote Comey.
Such an assurance would have been unorthodox from an FBI official. Comey told associates he won't back up the president's account, a source familiar with his thinking told the network.

Comey's testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee is shaping up to be a major national TV event, with all three major broadcast networks planning to break into regular programming and cable set to provide wall-to-wall coverage.
On Capitol Hill, TV networks and print outlets from around the world are scrambling to fill seats inside the Senate Intelligence Committee room inside the Heart Senate Office Building, where the former FBI director will take an oath before getting quizzed about his conversations with President Trump.
The event is already being compared to other TV events that rocked Washington, from Anita Hill's testimony during the Clarence Thomas confirmation hearings to Bill Clinton's impeachment and the Iran-Contra hearings.
TV networks are tossing out their daytime schedules. Fox News will refrain from commercials while sensational charges of Russian election interference get a major public hearing before a national audience.
Getting the boot will be morning programs including Rachel Ray on ABC, Let's Make a Deal on CBS, and normal Today Show programming. 'The View,' and 'The Price is Right' are also certain to get bumped during rounds of questioning that follow initial public statements from panel chairs and the high-profile witness.
Laura Lytle, director of the Senate Daily Press Gallery, has compared the interest to the build-up to the Bill Clinton impeachment trial, when the fate of the president an and the Monica Lewinsky scandal transfixed the nation.
On ABC, George Stephanopoulos anchors the network's coverage on Thursday.

Wolf Blitzer will cover the event for CNN, a network Trump brands as 'fake news'

The network will air the hearing commercial-free, according to a release.

Co-anchored by FNC's Bill Hemmer and Shannon Bream, coverage will begin at 9AM/ET and contributions will be made by a panel including FNC's chief political anchor Bret Baier, FOX News Sunday's Chris Wallace and The Five co-host Dana Perino. Additionally, FNC will be commercial-free when the hearing begins at 10AM/ET. FNC's Shepard Smith will anchor coverage for FOX Broadcast.
One near-certain viewer is President Trump, who was revealed in a New York Times story to have used a TiVo device to watch a previous Senate hearing on Russia meddling, where former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper testified.
Trump called it 'one of the great inventions of all time.'
Trump may 'live tweet' the event if he feels the need to respond, the Washington Post reported Monday.
The White House said Monday President Trump would NOT invoke executive privilege to prevent Comey from testifying.
