For some reason my phone auto-corrected "nutbars" to "nutbats". I think I'll leave it as is. :)

FROTHY MIX: I WOULD ANNUL ALL SAME-SEX MARRIAGES

Surging Santorum Would Annul All Same-Sex Marriages

Social conservatives are lauding Rick Santorum’s “surge” to third place in the Iowa polls, but his new forthrightness about his positions may backfire. In a recent interview with MSNBC’s Chuck Todd, Santorum explained that not only would he support a federal constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage, he supports invalidating all currently legal same-sex unions:
SANTORUM: I think marriage has to be one thing for everybody. We can’t have 50 different marriage laws in this country, you have to have one marriage law…

TODD: What would you do with same-sex couples who got married? Would you make them get divorced?

SANTORUM: Well, their marriage would be invalid. I think if the constitution says “marriage is this,” then people whose marriage is not consistent with the constitution… I’d love to think there’s another way of doing it.

----

He went on to claim that “same-sex couples can contract for everything” except government benefits and compared the loving marriages of many gay and lesbian couples to having a friend or an aunt.

Frothy Mix: Kids Are Better Off With Their Dad In Prison Than Having Two Moms

Rick Santorum wants to be seen as a blue collar, bootstraps, man of the people. But he keeps allowing himself to veer off message into weirdo rants like the one below. This is a good thing.

For the second time in as many days, Rick Santorum waded into the issue of gay marriage, suggesting it was so important for children to have both a father and mother that an imprisoned father was preferable to a same-sex parent. Citing the work of one anti-poverty expert, Santorum said, "He found that even fathers in jail who had abandoned their kids were still better than no father at all to have in their children's lives." Allowing gays to marry and raise children, Santorum said, amounts to "robbing children of something they need, they deserve, they have a right to. You may rationalize that that isn't true, but in your own life and in your own heart, you know it's true."

Catholic Vote Endorses Frothy Mix

Catholic Vote, the website whose blog is written by NOM Cultural Director (and blogger) Thomas Peters, has endorsed Rick Santorum. Peters, who tweets under the handle American Papist, is the son of the Vatican's top American authority on Catholic legal dogma. While NOM co-founders Maggie Gallagher and Brian Brown are both Catholic, that Vatican front group has yet to make an official endorsement. Last year Brown was exposed for secretly attending a high-ticket fundraiser for Catholicism convert Newt Gingrich.

"One of the things I will talk about, that no president has talked about before, is I think the dangers of contraception in this country. It’s not okay. It’s a license to do things in a sexual realm that is counter to how things are supposed to be. [Sex] is supposed to be within marriage. It’s supposed to be for purposes that are yes, conjugal…but also procreative. That’s the perfect way that a sexual union should happen. This is special and it needs to be seen as special."

- Rick Santorum, pledging to defund all federal contraception programs.

Um, yeah, according to who? fucking freak

Santorum Makes Campaign Swing Through Seventeenth Century

Blasts Contraception, Electricity, Soap

THE SEVENTEENTH CENTURY (The Borowitz Report) – In an effort to underscore his core beliefs leading up to this Tuesday night’s primary contests, former Sen. Rick Santorum made a campaign swing through the Seventeenth Century today.

At the first stop of his ambitious journey, Mr. Santorum restated his reason for seeking the White House: “I am running for President today because the position of Spanish Inquisitor is no longer available.”

The former Pennsylvania Senator served up red meat to his seventeenth-century supporters, telling them, “Since we all agree that contraception is a bad idea, it’s time to take a harder look at electricity and soap.”

Mr. Santorum, who said that in his first day in office he would repeal the Age of Enlightenment, stressed that he had home-schooled all seven of his children: “That means there are at least eight people in this country who don’t understand evolution.”

In a lighter moment, Sen. Santorum told his audience what he said was his favorite joke: “A Kenyan, a Muslim and a socialist walk into a bar. And then he makes everyone get an abortion.”

Elsewhere on the campaign trail, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich scored points with this comment on education: “We should leave no child behind, only wives.”
