maybe why many miss the correct answer in this thread, but I believe many miss this on their own, perhaps 50% or better, ask 10 people, 5 getting it wrong wouldn't shock me.

If they teach kids past third grade with a question like this, our education system is beyond pathetic.

Well not necessary the same exact problem more like in terms of variable "n" and the demonstration of using variable to solve algebraic expressions. But yeah, I definitely saw this problem back in the 6th grade. But I'm from VA, we know our education system is possibly second rate.

did we ever get the final answer? I came up with 5. It's amazing how a simple math problem gets 6 pages of replies.

How do you keep a bunch of fucking morons in suspense????

Give them a fucking Mr. Newlywed 2nd grade math problem.

Wow, some of you are BRUTAL. Maybe it was the drinking through the years or the fucking horrible genetics but some of you have an extra chromosome 21.

This explains why most people are losing bettors :p

(7+12)-(5+9) = 5

Anyone coming up with a number less than 5 please get my email from a mod, I will gladly book your business. of course it will be post up. And here is how the bonus will work. You send me 500, I'll give you 700. Then you can send me 900 and I will give you 1200. Only catch is you have to know how much your bonus was or you get nothing. Of course there will be a roll over and instead of giving you -110 lines you can have 6/5.

6/5 is +120, 5/6 is -120..

At least that's how it works here.

What is so difficult about this?

Pay 5, sell for 7 (+2)
Pay 9, sell for 12 (+3)

+$5 total

:WTF:

Exactly. Consider it two stock trades, take 3 seconds, and be done with it. These people showing their work with negative numbers and shit are making it way too hard for themselves.

I've got another one, what is heavier: a ton of bricks, and ton of wood or a ton of feathers? I remember that in yr 3 and only 2/30 got it right, but I bet 25%+ adults would get it wrong.

They all weigh the same, 2,000 pounds...

Well if it's a ton of bricks and a ton of wood or a ton of feathers, that would be 2 tons vs 1 ton ;-)

Depends if there's a typo in the question ;o)
