I am an American, and to some extent agree with your sentiment. By that I mean that sometimes Americans are arrogant, and blindly patriotic.

I just think your slap in the face terminology was probably not a good one.

Had you worded it something to the effect of:
I think the collective ego of americans needs to be checked, the post would have seemed less abrasive. It still would have been met with dissention, but I think people are kinda linking "slap inb the face" and acto of terrorism into one. 9-11 is still fresh in the minds of many.

I do however concur about Americans potentially benifiting from reading foreign perspectives.

I know many that buy the notion that America can do no wrong...which is undeniably facile. The Amercian government has been at times very helpful to others and at times very destructive. I think some blind patriots turn a blind eye to american caused attrocities.

I disagree on the Soviets being a superpower. Yeah, they had intercontinental nukes but what else? They diplomatically extended their influence for the most part.

The U.S. isn't the only one being attacked. Al-Qaeda had operatives all over the world. Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Oman, Kenya, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Philipines, Australia, Indonesia, etc. I could go on and on. Yet people keep saying ad nauseam that the terrorists want to destroy the U.S. and that if the U.S. just played nice everything would be OK. That's just not the case. They hate the Canadian infidels just as much as the American ones. Either they'll be wiped out, or the U.S. armed forces will be decimated. If the latter happens, these so-called nice countries will be next in line.

For the life of me, I can't fathom the extent to which people want to believe in the magnanimousness of the Islamic extremists.

Please inform me who gives more in aid by percentages. If possible, please include your source. Also, wouldn't it be easier to lambast countries like China or Russia for not keeping the U.S. honest than to blame the U.S. because others are allowing their free reign to advance their agenda? I'm trying to remember the website that equates Bush to the Fuhrer. I mean if they really believed that, they should be trying to remove Bush and/or the U.S. from their position of power IMO.

If the thread about "being slapped in the face" would have been in reference to countries getting products and things from other countries to "teach the USA a lesson" or some other subject like that ,then there is no problem. but to refer to a trrorist attack (in which citizens of not just the USA died) as a slap in the face is a bit much.
