Savant:
As in any business, bookmakers are in the business of making a profit. They will take a players money in a heartbeat without asking any questions. I have read threads on the forums about betting into a bad line and whether it is right or wrong. My opinion is that a business is responsible in all matters relating to it's operation. If it is poorly managed, it will pay the price as well it should. With many books, when a player makes an error in a play, the books may choose not to cancel the wager. Some will however. If a book posts a wrong line, they are responsible through human error or by some other means. If they except the wager as posted, they should honor the play. After that, they certainly have every option to correct the line, which was the case in this situation. It is not the player's responsibility to oversee the operation of the book. If a book wants to stay in a highly competitive business, it is their responsibility to stay sharp at all times and take full responsibility for their own actions. This issue is not about ethics because if it was, one could question the entire concept of the ethics of bookmaking in principle. The books are not in business to be our friend. I have said this many times before. We are here in a battle with the books. Who defines the rules of engagement?
