My bad. I was typing my message while you were posting yours. As to the odds, the post position draw must be done first, which I believe is tomorrow and then the morning line odds are assigned to each horse.

Its all good man, i thought that could ahve happened after O had posted again:thumbsup2:

Draw for post positions is Wednesday afternoon, televised by one of the ESPN's. Track handicapper Mike Battaglia will assign morning-line odds immediately after the draw. If you've never seen it, this show is worth watching.

Mrs VVV and I will begin our annual trek to Louisville for The Derby Thursday morning. For those who have never been, I highly recommend this trip at least once. Go to see the beautiful fillies, even if you could care less about the horses.

VVV

p.s. I did a search earlier today on Yahoo and found several good deals on hotel rooms Thurs-Sun starting at $95 per night. This won't help me as I am already locked in but anybody thinking of a spur-of-the-moment trip could really save some serious dough.

I've been going to The Derby since 1981 and have never been in the infield. The patrons do seem to have fun from what I can see but I figure I can get totally smashed out of my mind and play in the mud any of the other 364 days in the year.

I have seen quite a few folks leaving the infield area who didn't seem near as happy as those I have seen going in.

That said, that's why they make vanilla, chocolate and strawberry, so everybody gets what they want.

VVV

p.s. By the way, seeing two seconds of the race from the infield requires a lot of advance planning and an early start time. Most of the folks in the infield are too intoxicated to even see the race on the jumbotron. I am usually not that intoxicated until at least the race after The Derby.

I'll be in the grandstand for the Oaks and the infield for the Derby. Will be my 4th Oaks in 5 years, and my 10th Derby in 11 years.

thanks for the heads up man....everyone here thinks its going to be or is the greatest thing in the world, which it would be in many regards i'm sure...but i don't see myself driving 8 hours just to get fucking annihilated with random heads and see maybe a minute's worth of live action all day.

I've been laying $20 WP on any horse Nagatani has been on every year as far back as I can remember and I've yet to win a dime. Will probably do it again.

Was on the infield for the Derby in '86 when Shoemaker came from dead last to win. To give you an idea of how much drinking goes on, by the time the Derby rolled around, I had already drank, been drunk, passed out, sobered up, and then was starting on my second drunk at post time. Unreal.

The only bet worth making in regards to this list IMHO is Point Determined. Wouldn't be surprised to see his odds lower than BroDerek and B&J at posttime, this years wise-guy horse and might get down to 6-1. Seems like everyone likes him to hit the board at least.
The other one to consider if he gets into race (just outside the cut) is Sunriver, think he'll be closer to 25-1 and many respect his talent and Pletcher.

No way that PD goes off at lower odds than Brother Derek. Will be close to the odds of B&J though, but probably just a shade higher. 15-1.

All value in the future pool is shot.

Steppenwolfer - probably 40-1 and will run to his odds. I don't see him having much of a chance.

+2146 is a joke right now.

Edit: I'm thinking he'll be closer to 30-1 as opposed to 40-1.

Assuming a dry track I'll take Deputy Glitters; already have him at 70-1 in pool 3. I do believe there's a 30% chance of showers on Saturday though.

I have a feeling that this might happen even though BD is ML choiice. THink Baffert will eventually tip his hand and say that PD is his best chance. In the past few days there has been alot of talk about BroDer. works and the fact that he might get caught up in front end battle and most think that this race will be won by a closer. Alot of casual bettors will bet on a Baffert horse anyway. PD is this years wiseguy horse, not to long ago he was figured at 20-1, I honestly think he'll be less than 10-1 on Sat.
