$547.00 a month?''Houston we have a problem".This sounds crazy high.I might hit $250.00 in the the summer running the central air.You might want to check in to natural gas as a heat alternative, allot cheaper than elec. heat.I use oil for heat,I added a free standing pellet stove as a heat source. It cut our oil consumption big time....You might want to check into a solar alternative,my one neighbor got the whole shabang,With very little out of pocket expense, they have an agreement to sell their unused power back to Elec. Co. and there bills are close to zilch.

Avg cost per KW hour in the U.S. about .12 - .13 so you're in the neighborhood given your usage. What I would look at is WHERE is all that juice going? IMO..."SOMETHING" is running nonstop that shouldn't be.

I would turn off just about every dang thing in the house (except fridge and stuff) and go look at that meter. It should barely move.

Good luck

2600 sq ft (2 story).

last elec bill was $175.
gas and Water (total) was about $80.

Because it was colder this month, I expect both to be a little high next bill, but that's about as high as mine go all year.

Shit out here in the middle of the sea a 1200 sq ft house avg about $200-$350/mo. I have friends whose bill runs them $500-$700/mo. Photovoltaic is all the craze out here. Nearly 1 out of every 5 houses has a system. Paid 25k for my system which zeros out electric bill every month. After tax rebates system cost will be 11k. So in essence the system will pay for itself in about 3yrs.

I live in Nebraska where it's cold as shit the last couple months (although today high of 45, going to go lay out). ~4000 sq foot house (counting basement) so I'd say a fairly decent sized home which we had built 1 1/2 years ago.

We keep the thermo on 70 and my bill pushes around $180 a month. You like about everything else Mr NW so this is prob no different (I keep waiting for him to come back with a 10,000 sq ft house comment) but you a moron to pay that every month. Wait you are a moron...and you are stupid for paying that every month.

In SC too in a 1600sq ft, and it runs $105-$165. I got offered the same price all 12 months of like $130. If your bill was that high, I'm surprised someone hasn't been out there.

you sure you aren't preparing for the Marijuana Revolution with an indoor garden? :)
