Wow, if Fed beats Nishikori, then he's in the semis. He will eat Zverev alive.

Fed vs.

3. Berdych
4. Nishikori
5. Murray

6. Wawrinka/Tsonga

7. Monfils/Nadal/Bautista/Raonic/Thiem/Dimitrov/Goffin

He'll probably lose to Murray if he gets that far, but if he beats Murray then he's probably in the finals.

I thought he was toast. Was getting blasted 5-1 in the 1st and didn't look good.

#5 is Zverev. Don't think that'll be too much of a problem.

----------------------------------------------------------- semis

--------------------------Fed/Zverev ------------------- Fed/Wawa
--------------------------Wawa/Tsonga

Monfils/Nadal ----------Nadal/Bau/Rao ----------------
Bautista/Raonic

Thiem/Goffin -----------Thiem/Goff/Dimtrv -----------
Dimitrov/Istomin

IMO, just 2 matches left. Wawrinka and then the final.

Tough to be Wawa nowadays, but possible. The final would be tough. If he gets:

Nadal -- auto loss
Raonic -- real tough
Bautista -- win

Thiem -- tough, but win
Goffin -- win
Dimitrov -- win

no auto-loss vs Nadal, disagree. Take away clay, and the record is 13-8 for Nadal. Melbourne Park surface is a little faster than previous years, that should help Fed if they were to meet.

I'm more worried about Milos than Nadal. I don't think Fed can beat Milos. BUt as you say, lot of work to get there and thankfully he doesnt have to go through both of them. For whatever reason Fed matches up real well Vs Wawrinka, 21-3 career. Wawrinka is in form tho, that's a very tough match

has Andy Murray boarded his flight back home yet? @)

I have to disagree on the Nadal match. I've been watching Nadal's matches here. As Fed fans we know Fed is Rafa's bitch. There's no denying it. If Nadal were on a lower level right now, I'd say Fed could do it. But if they play in the finals, it's very hard for me to see Fed winning it.

In order of difficulty:

1. Rafa
2. Raonic
3. Wawa

4. The rest

From Fed's tells it almost look like he knows he's in the final. He beats Zverez and he has a great shot in the semis if he continues this level.

with no Murray and Nole, Milos has to be licking his chops. Nadal/Fed are into their 30's, prime has sailed. What more does he want? The stars are aligning Milos. He plays a much more aggressive return game, love the changes he's made over the last while. Nadal's winning % on all surfaces other than clay has dropped rather dramatically over the last 2 years. He's certainly off to a good start in '17- health issues behind him?

Thiem/Goffin going to be a heck of a match. I like Dimitrov to knock of an in-form Istomin

he's so well conditioned. And efficient, not a lot of wasted energy out there- technique/footwork .... . In the modern era NO ONE has been as successful late in their career as Fed. 35yrs old? Off the charts

"I didn't expect him to play this well from the start and that put me on the back foot for the remainder of the match to some extent," added Federer. "But I was able to wrestle it back in my favour. I got myself into the match and started to play the good sets that I knew I could. The question was could I hang with Kei until the very end. I was able to do that, so I'm super happy.
"You have a game plan and he's got a game plan. Sometimes it doesn't match up the right way for you. He was quick out of the blocks. I was accepting it and moving on with it, trying to at least find some sort of a rhythm going into the second set... I was still upbeat about my chances after that first set. I think it gave me something coming back into that set actually."

-----

it was Nish that got cramps in the 5th, not Fed...........just crazy. Some guys were just born to play a certain game, freaks. N Lidstrom is another -- fuckin' guy was top dee well late into his career; technically brilliant, made it look easy..........like Fed

You see these odds that don't make sense?

Rafa -250 > Monfils
Raonic -400 > Bautista
Dimitrov -750 > Istomin

Rafa is the strongest play of the bunch and at the cheapest price. Makes no sense to me. Bautista can take out Raonic and Dimitrov should never be bet -750 or higher -- EVER!

Rafa 12-2 vs. Monfils
Raonic 4-0 vs. Bautista (3-0 on HC)... and those 3 matches were all ridiculously tight
Dimitrov 1-1 vs. Istomin
