well to be fair that isn't really an issue with this bill

regardless if the cigarettes are made abroad or here

they will still be taxed 62 cents more a pack its not a tax on the company

its a tax on the consumer

in addition the cig companies will likely hike prices again to make up the the increased loss in sales volume so the increase the consumer sees will likely be more than 62 cents....

in a time of economic gloom and doom just gonna give more incentive for people to

A. go underground and find a way to do their smoking for cheaper dodging the taxes

B. pay more taxes and have less money to spend on other things to help stimulate the economy

in addition tobacco farmers will see lower sales and such.....and they too will have less money to spend in the economy

at the rate they are going people are gonna start growing their own tobacco and bootlegging it so to speak

granted i'm not sure of the legality of growing and smoking your own tobacco...i assume the sale of it is illegal...not sure about for your own personal use

i know you can make your own homebrew of alcohol up to a certain amount for personal consumption

Maybe he can get Bush to show how to end his boom.

don't worry Punter, every American just won the lottery, and nobody has to pay for it.

It's good to have change and hope

(which i dont believe about declining sales)

Tobacco use by Americans has been steadily declining for the past 15 years, whether you wish to believe it or not

yeah whether people think its a good thing or not as far as government intruding on the situation....

government intervention and taxation has led to alot less young people not picking up the habit

i think its mainly taxation.....5 bucks a day habit is a big expediture for a high school kid....vs. the buck or whatever it was 15 years ago

they are getting alot less fresh blood

and the ones they had hooked since they were young are slowly dieing off as well as all the quit smoking stuff has helped people kick the habit

its tough to grade him right now. The republicans have been on the offensive and rightfully so. They have tons of amo to work with. (e.g. Staff resignations, an unclear message and purpose of the stimulus plan) Right now, Obama and the administration is taking it on the chin.

Now, they've done a pretty good job putting the Daschle and Co. stories behind them. If they can just hone in on the purpose of this stimulus plan, (because no one can make heads or tails with it), then they'll have a better objective getting back on track.

General, honest and accurate education about the effects of using tobacco have been the primary motivation for existing users to quit and for inhibiting young people from starting

Another two weeks or so and you should be fairly well detoxed so the physical withdrawal symptoms will be pretty much done

Suggest you google out some sites on how to accelerate the detox

And when you're six months clean, we've got to arrange a trip one direction or the other and I'll buy you dinner to celebrate.

Expecting to be making a CO/UT run in late May/early June....Maybe do a jump over to Las Vegas for a couple nights before I head back home

Services have to be paid for. All those rooting for gambeling and drugs to be legalized should take note.

You ever been a tobacco addict?

The ones I've known over the past 33 years have never used pricing as a leading motivator to quit use.

yeah currently am

i ain't talkin about quitting

i'm talking about starting

qutting is the hard part and you are right price alone will not get to you quit for the long haul although it can help give you that push and i know it has helped some smokers i know...but in the end you need to do it for yourself cause you want to

not starting isn't hard....

and 5+ dollars for a pack is a good motivation for a teenager making 6.50 flipping burgers to not start and get hooked

vs. the buck a pack or whatever it was 15 years ago

Lemme be honest here. Price was never a reason I would quit. thats for sure. I remember spending time in Canada spending damn near 9-10 bucks a pack!!!!!!

thanks Bar for the suggestions. I didn't know 2 weeks was all i needed to kick the nicotine outta my body. Thats great. I will say this. the toughest place to be not have a cig is friggin Vegas!!!! How else would I kill time at the sportsbook?

the physical addition

the mental stays with you for a long time

one of my friends that is like 2 years into quitting said he dreams about smoking cigarettes

nicoteen one of the most addictive drugs know to man....the extra chemicals and shit the tobacco companies toss in there makes it even more addictive......its not an easy habit to kick

i wish you luck

what you stated above is the mental aspect....cigarettes are your relax break....cigarettes fulfill an oral fixation.....its a habit.....you'll find yourself in many situations where your brain remembers the good times with your ol pal cig and you have to say fuck you brain.....this is the tough thing to beat over the long haul....beating the first few weeks of the physical addition isn't that hard....i've done it several times.....sticking with it mentally long term is the hard part and its really easy to slip.....

one thing i will suggest is toothpicks

a big part of smokes for me is oral fixation, or just doing something with my hands and mouth, i'm a big nail biter too...
