Union brass, lawyer to accompany Sgt. Crowley to White House
By Marie Szaniszlo
Wednesday, July 29, 2009 - Added 22h ago

A union official and attorney will accompany Cambridge police Sgt. James Crowley to tomorrow’s “beer summit” with President Obama and Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates Jr.

Crowley will be joined at the White House by Dennis O’Connor, president of the Cambridge Police Superior Officers Association, and Alan McDonald, the attorney for the Cambridge Police Superior Officers Association, the Cambridge Police Patrol Officers Association and the Massachusetts Municipal Police Coalition.

“We are hopeful that this will be a constructive discussion and a positive step for law enforcement officers across the country,” said Melissa Hurley, a spokeswoman for all three organizations. “Jim (Crowley) would like to thank the men and women of the Cambridge and Natick police unions, and police officers from the Massachusetts Municipal Police Coalition and across the state and country for their overwhelming support during this difficult time for him and his family.”

Smart move when meeting with race baiters..cover your ass. :103631605

For upwards of a century now, hundreds of millions of Americans have enjoyed the benefits of being members in a labor union.

Now Officer Crowley can add his name to that list.

This thread diverged into discussion of 4th Amendment rights and perhaps left this important First Amendment reference in the dust:

This is an urban wive's tale. (mixed metaphor at No Extra Charge)

Given the proper circumstances, one most certainly has full rights to yell, "Fire!" in a crowded theatre.

SDawg asks: would you feel sorry for him if he got his ass kicked?

No prob...I actually don't eat steak but maybe three, four times a year - and then only in small quantity (8ozs). The ol' Barman internals seem pretty flexible in my 50th year, but steak makes me ache, if you know what I mean and I think you do.

Still will a few times a year because a well prepared steak is - as Jules tells the boys about Big Kahuna burgers just before killing them - "pretty fucking tasty".

A snap judgement offered by BO assessing that the police were acting "stupidly" was followed by an ill fated BEER SUMMIT that sent this trivial matter into a national frenzy. We only have a little over 3 years of this BO silliness. My hope hope is that BO's propensity to snap judgements doesn't really come to haunt the country in matters that are not trivial.

July 31, 2009 Obama's revealing body language (updated and expanded))

Thomas Lifson
This picture truly is worth at least a thousand words.

afterbeers_PS-0436.jpg

I am stunned that the official White House Blog published this picture and that it is in the public domain. The body language is most revealing.

Sergeant Crowley, the sole class act in this trio, helps the handicapped Professor Gates down the stairs, while Barack Obama, heedless of the infirmities of his friend and fellow victim of self-defined racial profiling, strides ahead on his own. So who is compassionate? And who is so self-involved and arrogant that he is oblivious?

In my own dealings with the wealthy and powerful, I have always found that the way to quickly capture the moral essence of a person is to watch how they treat those who are less powerful. Do they understand that the others are also human beings with feelings? Especially when they think nobody is looking.

Hat tip: Rick Richman

Update from Thomas Lifson:

I think this photo constitutes another major Obama blunder.
As some AT commentators point out, this picture becomes a metaphor for ObamaCare. The elderly are left in the back, with only the kindness of the Crowleys of the world, the stand up guys, to depend on. The government has other priorities.

Didn't you know? The reason that he is 2 steps ahead rather than to one that is customary for a POTUS to lead, is that he is late for his visit to Walter Reed.

For those of you that don't know. That is former KKK card carrying member Democrat Senator Robert Byrd being assited by Pres. Bush.

...but there is hope for Robert Byrd lifelong political hack.Because in his golden years and being part of the US Senate his healthcare will never change. He'll never have to wait for immediate medical help. He'll never be part of the lotterey system for elderly care.Or be counciled to take the cheaper way out for the greater good of Obamanation.
