wow, things are worse than I thought. I've given up on this season, so have actually been hoping for more losses which hopefully would result in some major changes with the coaching staff, now this comes out, wow. They've made some really stupid play calls on offense this year.
"Raiders cornerback Charles Woodson lambasted Bill Callahan during an interview with ESPN's Andrea Kremer, saying the head coach's arrogance is such that he's ignoring the advice of the team's experienced players.
Asked whether Callahan has lost the team because of the Raiders' tumultuous 2-5 start, Woodson replied, "A large part of it.''
What do you do about it as veteran players, Woodson was asked.
"You know what's so tough about that, is I think we have a coach with a very big ego, you know what I mean?'' Woodson told Kremer during an interview conducted Wednesday at the Raiders' facility in Alameda. "And he's not listening to those veterans. And that's what's sad about it.
"When you get to a point, I think, in your life where you can't listen to guys with the experience that we have on our offense,'' Woodson continued, "then I think there's something very wrong. That's the problem.''
KNBR radio as well as ESPN news played that portion of the interview extensively Thursday afternoon. Woodson was not made available to print media this week.
Kremer's entire five-minute piece on the Raiders will air on ESPN's Sunday "NFL Countdown" show.
Callahan was not available for comment late Thursday.
Briefly: Newly signed DT Sean Gilbert, who conceded he was sluggish following his first practice in over a year on Wednesday, looked stronger in Thursday's workout, Callahan said. "He played over the center, he played over the guard. I thought it was a good progression,'' the coach said. "He could possibly be active (Sunday). I haven't determined that.''
