No professional league in the history of sports has ever made as many drastic changes in 1 offseason as MLB this year . And I love it .

I'd say baseball is done either way but revenue continues to increase so someone must be watching. Besides Aaron Judge, the rest of these guys could probably go to the movies anywhere in America and not even be noticed.

What they need is fewer games. The season is about 9 months long with games played every single day. By time the world series is played, NFL will be halfway through their season and the NFL just ended last week.

And taking strategy out of the game is never a good thing. These are pro's. Learn how to hit everywhere.

This is why black qb's tend to never work. The scouts find out real quick their tendancies which is why many may have 1-2 good years and then its a wrap. Like Michael Vick I think it was, teams found out he only scrambled left. And other qb's, teams find out they aren't accurate on certain patterns or certain directions.

I like strategy in sports.

Having homefield in the world series decided by the AS game is probably the dumbest thing in the history of sports. Nothing is dumber.

Season is too long and yet they devalue the regular season

Regarding these newer changes, my guess is they do have a ton of internal data that just says they're in trouble with Gen Z over the next 10-15 years if they don't innovate, for better or worse. And obviously all these owners care about is money.

People always talk about the games are too long
Thats not it the season is too long
College football runs 3 1/2 hours a game
People watch because each game is important and you have a point spread
The problem is there is so much history attached to the long season
But at this point I have no problem changing it because 162 games only means something if you have a small number of teams in the playoffs
You don't play 162 games and the only real benefit is 1 extra home game or even the number 1 seed gets a bye when so many teams have a shot
With 162 games you only get 4 team in. 2 in the National ansd 2 in the American otherwise its stupid to play that many games
The point was to show the best teams over such a long period of time so that only the best got in
Then the 4 best teams could play a longer than 7 game series to decide the winner too if so desired like they use to
But even cutting it in half would not make a huge ratings swing

Have a 102 game season. Start April 20 until Aug 31. Playoffs start Sept 1. Keep the shift. How can you not know how to bunt down third base.

I agree with Tallsports and exploited. The season is too damned long. Half the teams are in cold weather climates. Have you ever played baseball in 30 - 40 - 50 degree weather? It sucks. Games should start in May and be all done in September.

And yes, keep the shift. Innovation is the spice of life. Learn to counter it.

Lot's of interest in this topic on a sports gambling site...the rest of the country has little interest in baseball.
Meanwhile, two items of interest: 1) CFB is actually talking about shortening the games which is a terrible idea and 2) wonder if the NFL will institute a rule regarding the Eagles QB push play?

Simply not true . Baseball is very popular regionally .
Leagues don’t hand out 400 million dollar contracts to players in leagues where there is no interest .

I'll give you MLB is a regional sport...not exactly the vision. By whatever measure you want to choose (World Series ratings, overall attendance, USA born players, etc, etc), you will have a hard time finding a metric that indicates anything other than the decline of interest. You can Google the dying MLB if you would like to find the a consensus. It's a regional game and 75% of the regions have no shot at a successful season. The NFL draft is a much bigger event that MLB opening day, All Star game or the World Series.
Nothing against those who still follow MLB as it does provide valuable day-to-day entertainment for shut-ins and the infirmed.

CFB is talking about NOT stopping the clock after a first down unless its in the last 2 minutes of the first half. I dont think its the worst idea.

I remember maybe 10-15 years ago where they tried to start the clock after a change of possession. Thought it was weird

Shortening the game is a good idea.

The younger generation enjoys soccer more than baseball.

Why? B/c with soccer, the game is over in less than 2 hours. With baseball, nobody wants to watch a 3.5 hour game thats not exciting

I've pretty much eliminated baseball from my sports calendar... like to have the late spring until football fall camps free
