When I left big city and moved to the lake I didn’t hook up computer, only had a flip phone, never had nor never will have/do Facebook, Instagram or Twitter. Only reason I have a better phone is granddaughter got a new one...then found I could “scratch that gambling itch” very cheaply or I’d still have flip phone. Only thing I don’t mind is Snap and that’s to see grandkids, but would rather see in person.

And I’m not even over 60face)(*^%

those parents should know this is a rep team, the best as seen through the eyes of the coaches make it. It aint house league. They may not agree with the decision but to use guilt and put this on the coach? Speaks poorly of them, hopefully they see this in time. They should have thanked you for volunteering your time and giving little Johnny a shot. i DO understand that' its their kid, it can be very hard. With that said, you are goign to get these kinds of people . Always. Not entirely convinced its more pervasive nowadays, at least not in my neck of the woods.

Agree, what's funny a week before tryouts (I've coached the kid for 4 years) they sent me an email thanking me for all the time I have put in (volunteer, I get zero payment) and how much their kid and family loves playing for me. That I do thinks the right way, etc.

Then a week later...I'm not any of those things.

It’s been almost 30 years since I coached my sons T-ball team. Me and another guy both wanted to teach the kids early the fundamentals. We made sure to talk with the parents before the practices to let them know our intentions. Told them if they saw their kid falling behind to practice with them at home or bring them early or stay late and we would help. Of course this was all before social media...Had a great team, great kids and understanding parents when little Johnny or Susie (yep had same damn good girls on the team) didn’t get to play as much as others. Also was an umpire for baseball including High School and had little problems as I knew the rules, called a fair strike zone and was up front with coaches and parents.

NO WAY IN HELL, I would coach or umpire in today’s world.

Congrats to you for taking the time to do it. Fun and rewarding if you don’t have to deal with the extra BS!!

lol, classic

coaching can be very rewarding esp., if one likes kids. Know of a guy that has coached minor hockey for about 40 yrs. A retired police officer. He's in his 70's!! he's on the ice with a smoking-induced raspy voice yelling instructions. Takes a rep team of 9 yr olds coaching them to age 12, then drops down to the 9 yr old age group, rinse and repeat. Keeps him young inside. He was great at blocking the parent noise, has a special way with people. Never gets too personal and focus stays with the kids
