Running back Bryce Brown is headed to Tennessee, choosing the Volunteers over Kansas State. Oregon finished third.
Brown called the Ducks' offense "nice and flashy'' but preferred Lane Kiffin's offense over Oregon's spread-option, even though the Ducks were second in the nation in rushing last season.
"I just didn't think (Oregon) would prepare me enough for the NFL,'' Brown told Wichita Sports Radio 1410 KGSO after his announcement. "I'm thinking long term, I'm thinking next level already.''
Brown, the nation's top-ranked recruit who also was considering LSU and Miami (even though the Hurricanes withdrew their scholarship offer after Brown missed an imposed deadline), made the announcement shortly after 11 a.m.PT at the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame in Wichita, Kan.
Brown first took a Miami cap out of a bag and presented it to his brother, Hurricanes linebacker Arthur Brown Jr., who was seated next to him. Bryce Brown then drew a Tennessee hat from his bag and put it on.
Bryce Brown took a surprise visit to Tennessee last weekend and created a buzz wearing an orange jacket, and now he has made it official that he will join Kiffin and the Volunteers.
Outgoing Oregon coach Mike Bellotti said Saturday that he will revisit the suspension of running back LeGarrette Blount today or by the middle of the week. The Ducks' redshirt freshman LaMichael James also figures to get plenty of carries in 2009.
"Tennessee is the next USC,'' said Brown, who was attracted to the energy and intensity of Kiffin, a former Trojans assistant, and also to the Volunteers' new running backs coach, Eddie Gran, who coached Carnell Williams, Ronnie Brown and Rudi Johnson at Auburn.
The Ducks play Tennessee in the 2010 season, on Sept. 11 in Knoxville, but Brown should be gone by the time the Vols make a return visit to Eugene, in 2013.
