That won't be an issue today as Oakland is scoring 5.6 runs per game over their past seven games with a .274 batting average. The Indians are in a major hitting slump. Over their past seven games they have a .196 batting average and have scored a mere 3.9 runs per game. Ubaldo Jimenez has posted a 4.11 ERA this season and he has a 1.500 WHIP on the road. Arizona needs to win games by playing defense, and they have one of the best defensive players in the league in Patrick Patterson. They shut out Green Bay in Week 1, and expect a strong performance again in Week 2. Dallas has looked strong in the first halves of both games, and expect their starters to play a little longer in this game since it is Week 2. I am not a fan of Carson Palmer and feel he keeps getting chances despite very little production. We just hope turnovers and special teams do not play a major role in this game. The Falcons offense was a bit underwhelming last year, and with Tulsa having just 3 defensive starters making their return, it presents a favorable matchup for the Golden Hurricanes. Two key positions on offense, the running back and starting tackle, will see new faces this year. That is going to be a difficult adjustment for the Falcons. I think the Falcon's are going to struggle to complete passes down field in this game. South Carolina is a very strong team out of the SEC, and they could possibly make a run at the national title. However, they play at Georgia next week in a big showdown game which may keep them from playing their best tonight. The Mountaineers also lost receivers Tavon Austin and Stedman Baily. Their quick scoring ability is non-existent this season, and they will have to rely heavily on the ground attack. That could be a major issue against an Oklahoma defense that features a strong linebacking core, and a top-notch secondary. In week one the Sooners held a solid ULM team scoreless in a 34-0 blowout. Oklahoma is facing a West Virginia defense that was third worst in the nation against the pass, and allowed 38.1 points per game. The Sooners have two dual threat quarterbacks between Trevor Knight and Blake Bell. Knight led the team in rushing with 13 carries for 103 yards, and he also passed for three touchdowns last week. He should have an even better performance this week against a Mountaineers secondary that allowed FCS opponent William & Mary to complete 67% of their passes, and throw for over 200 yards in week one.

This offense was terrible last season, 26th in passing, 17th in rushing, and young QB Ryan Tanenhill had just 12 TDs, 13 INTs. Miami is 19-7 under the total on the road. Miami has a good pass rush to throw at the Browns and second-year QB Brandon Weeden. Cleveland's defense is mch improved up front after a busy offseason. The Browns are on a 19-8-1 run under the total the under is 10-3 in the Browns last 13 home games. The under is also 15-5-1 in the Browns last 21 games on grass and when these teams meet the under is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings. Play the Dolphins/Browns under the total.

Now, the Gators have been the dominate school in Florida with their recent success under Urban Meyer. Will Mushamp is in his 3rd year and again the defense will be the prominent unit for the Gators. Florida is off a 24-6 win over Toledo. No flash from the Gators in the win. They just pounded the Rockets into the ground by controlling the ball for nearly 40 minutes.
The Hurricanes are off a season that saw them miss the post-season as they had a self-imposed ban on themselves. This is a hungry group of kids with 20 starters back. Stephan Morris threw for 160 yards in a 34-6 win over Florida Atlantic, but the offensive story is RB Duke Johnson. Johnson can easily be the ACC POY this year if he can duplicate the 186 yards he produced in the Canes win. He had a touchdown run of 53 yards and, along with Herb Waters 63 yard TD run, shows that this offense can put up points in a hurry.
As good as I think the Canes offense can be, they will have a hard time against the Gators. Florida comes in with one of the units in the country. Toledo isn’t Miami U, but they did hold the Rockets to just 50 yards rushing and a shade of 200 total yards. We know Florida can play with the top teams as they proved last year by knocking off 3 teams ranked in the Top 10. I still think that the Canes experience, especially offensive skill players, will win out over the Gator defense.
My final thoughts
I think that the Hurricanes experience and home field will be the big difference makers here. The Florida offense in my eyes is not superior to the Hurricanes defense. Miami HC Al Golden is also in his year 3, and has taken steps to bring ‘The U’ back to prominence. An upset win here will go a long way to restoring some of that Hurricane pride.

Notre Dame’s offense did put-up a lot of yards on Temple last week, but that was expected. But the fact the Irish did not convert those yards into points is troublesome, especially against an inferior opponent. The Irish are taking a major step-up in defensive class in this game, and with the way Michigan’s defense played last week, it’s hard to envision Notre Dame scoring a lot of points. Michigan’s offense had it easy last week against a terrible defense. But the Wolverines will face a stout Notre Dame stop unit in this game. QB Devin Gardner cannot be careless with the ball (2 interceptions vs. Central Michigan) and get away with it against the Irish. Despite looking so good last week, we expect Michigan’s offense to stall against the Irish. Irish HC Brian Kelly knows he doesn’t have the firepower to trade points with Michigan, so we expect to see a conservative game plan from the road underdog. Notre Dame will have to win this game with ball control and defense, and because of that, we’ll recommend playing Notre Dame and Michigan Under the total on Saturday night.

Bonus Play from Doc’s Sports. #330 Take Air Force Falcons +9.5 over Utah State Aggies (Saturday 3:30 pm CBS Sports Network) The Aggies are coming off an emotional loss to Utah last week and thus I expect a carryover effect in this game. Air Force would have been a better opponent to prepare for as an opening week game but that will not be the case for the Aggies. The Force played an inferior opponent last week in Colgate and did lose QB Kale Pearson but I do not feel that will be a major setback for this system team. Next man up is Jaleel Awini and expect him to perform well. Chuckie Carr has one of the best names in football but I believe they will have their hands full in this game against a team that will battle you for sixty minutes. Air Force has been a little overrated by the odds makers of late, losing six straight ATS, but now they have been over adjusted where we can play with them. Do not miss Doc’s Sports weekend football card. We went 7-0 in Week 1 including a blowout top play winner, as Washington destroyed Boise State, 38-6. Now is the time to jump on board with a veteran handicapper that has 42 years in the business!

The Raiders have an inconsistent Darren McFadden running the ball, and that is about it as far as talented offensive players go. They will have a new quarterback, but he will have to find someone new to throw the ball to with the loss of their leading receiver, TE Brandon Myers. Andrew Luck is a dual threat quarterback that throws well on the run. He should have no problem exploiting any one of the multiple vulnerabilities from this Raiders defense. The Colts defense should be a lot better this season with the addition of LaRon Landry. They also picked up Darrius Heyward-Bey at the receiver position to help make up for the loss of Donnie Avery and Austin Collie. Reggie Wayne and TY Hilton still make up the No. 1 and No 2. targets for Luck. The Colts finished with a 7-1 ATS record at home last season and they should have no problem beating up on the NFL’s worst team in this season opener.

The Raiders have a new offensive coordinator in Greg Olson who has installed his downhill power-running game scheme to fit RB Darren McFadden. The team feels that Terrelle Pryor fits Olson’s system so he will get the start at quarterback. McFadden’s ability to run the ball will take a lot of pressure off Pryor which will make the Raiders’ offense balanced and less predictable. The Raiders’ defense has a lot of new starters so it’s going to take time for all of the pieces to come together. The good thing for Oakland in this game is the fact they will be facing a mediocre Colts’ offense that also has many new parts. The Raiders’ defensive leaks may not be exposed to the fullest in this opening game. Indianapolis made the playoffs last season, but they were a phony playoff team and their 11-5 regular season record was not indicative of their on-field play. Indianapolis was the only team to make the post-season with a negative point differential (-30). Nine of their eleven wins came by 7 points or less with six of those wins coming by 4 points or less. Indianapolis will be an overvalued commodity this season. Both teams have major question marks coming into the 2013 season. However, in this particular game, there’s a lot of value in playing against the overrated Colts. They were a fraudulent team last season, and they simply have no business laying this many points, no matter who the opponent is. The Raiders have a solid running back in McFadden, and QB Pryor is also mobile enough to keep plays alive with his legs. This isn’t the best looking NFL game on the betting board, but there’s too much value on the road underdog to pass up. Take the big points with the Oakland Raiders on Sunday afternoon.
