1. Two Strike
Two strike refers to the second time a player gets two strikes on his/her first serve. If a player receives two strikes on their first serve, they have no choice but to hit the ball back over the net. A player who receives two strikes on their second serve may choose to either take a penalty stroke or play a drop shot.
2. Penalty Stroke
A penalty stroke is a free-hit where the player does not receive any additional points for hitting the ball. The only way to score points after receiving a penalty stroke is if the opponent misses the ball completely.
3. Drop Shot
A drop shot is a type of shot where the player hits the ball below the net and bounces it off the ground before returning it to the court. Dropping the ball causes it to bounce higher than normal and is often used to get the ball out of the way of the opponent's return.
4. Double Fault
Double fault occurs when a player commits two faults (faults being a violation of the rules) in succession. After committing a double fault, the player loses the point and the game continues until the end of the set.
5. Set Break
Set break occurs when a player wins three games consecutively without losing a single game. Once a player reaches a set break, he/she automatically advances to the next round.
6. Round
Round is a term used to describe each individual match played between two players. Each round consists of four sets of singles matches.
7. Tiebreaker
Tiebreakers occur when two or more players are tied at the end of a set. In order to determine the winner, the tiebreaker is used. There are several different types of tiebreakers including sudden death, golden point, and advantage.
