am I the only one who has no idea what this is?

username_ is simply stating how he's comparing the difference in the point spread for a game versus the predicted score of the newsletter.

He goes on to point out Powers Picks (and PowerSweep IMHO) will often pick a game's score to be close to the line. For example, if Michigan is favored by 3 over Notre Dame with a total of 48, Powers Pick might project a final score of Michigan 25, Notre Dame 22.

Pointwise on the other hand, for the same game might pick Notre Dame to win 45-44, or Michigan to win 7-6 for the same game. The idea being looking at the projected score provides insight into which way to bet the total, or whether a game will be a comfortable blowout. (but who wants that?)

I'm guessing his reference to "Phil/Bruce" is the name of the guys who write up Pointwise.

The point is that there are selections, overlays and "values" outside of just the starred/weighted plays written up in the newsletters. There's many different ways to use the information to come up with bets, and not just go off Win/Loss records on official picks.

username_ then provides some more info on how he compares the numbers with a couple of different sheets, and tracks the results in a spreadsheet. I use a different approach, but along the same lines of comparing selections. The key is to be able to come up with an approach with repeatable plays generated, and then track those results to see if they're net positive or net negative enough to bet on or fade.

You're right I see the Standings link but when us nonmembers click it, we get a 'Subscribe to VSIN' window that pops up fast & no standings.
