"If Denver would have won the last 2 games.what would be the line? Maybe 4.5 or 5 or more? But Denver lost the last 2 and have a 3rd string qb going and they are favorites. What how can it be New England is not the favorite off of the way they have been playing and the way Denver has performed with a 2nd and 3rd string qb? Now the line is 2.5 today.Get the trap out for the mice when they get 3 points monday nite with the Patriots.
Denver has not beaten anybody, but they arre the fav.The boys that put the number out know more than us.I will gladly give the 2.5 or 3 points and say thank you."

I'm not sure what your point is...

Are you saying that you'll bet Denver or the pats?

It seems to me the pats are the better team - thus the reason the broncs aren't even getting the traditional 3 at home. The people that made the line were scared of the pats keeping it close (like within 3 or 4) but they didn't want to scare away all action on denver so they took a couple of points away from denver and called it good.

This game is a tough one to bet on and I wont be putting anything on this one - but giving the pats a couple points is awful tempting.

How is it that they beat the Dolphins and the titans then are underdogs to an underachieving, 5th string QB - denver team?

Jaypaw, my point is that New England should no doubt be the favorite here with Denver starting a 3rd or 4th string qb,Not getting points.By Denver being the favorite off their recent play the game has to be a trap if you take New England + the points. My play and plan is to hit Denver good in the game.Sorry if I confused you.

Your point is that New England should be the favorite then you take Denver?

That doesn't make any sense. If you think new england should be the favorite you are saying that you think they should be able to win the game... If that is the case would you not then bet on them to win?

Or is this a method you have of fading yourself?

If so I'm not knocking it - believe me I've thought long and hard about fading myself...

I love the Pats here. Denver has been terrible the past 2 weeks without Plummer, and I don't expect that to change much.

Jaypaw not at all.I am not playing against myself or picks.I like Denver whoever the qb or line is.But I know there are some sharp people out there and say "NE, h'm 6-2 on a roll from Miami playing a team that lost 2 games and QB's, how can they be giving." The game has the writing on it as a trap play or number.

is -2 usually a trap number?

Or are you just saying all of the factors combined?

"I like Denver whoever the qb or line is"

Do you mean that you'd still like Denver if it was -10 and Jarious Jackson was starting?

Broncos won't know McCaffrey's status until Monday

By JOHN MARSHALL, AP Sports Writer
October 29, 2003
DENVER (AP) -- Denver Broncos receiver Ed McCaffrey will not practice this week and will likely see limited playing time even if his sore knee is well enough to play Monday night against New England.

McCaffrey missed the past two games with a chronic condition in his right knee and was still having trouble cutting early this week.

Coach Mike Shanahan said he won't know if McCaffrey can play until just before Monday night's game. Even if does play, Shanahan said it will only be for about 15-20 plays.

``He still had the same type of soreness that he's had the last couple of weeks, so my recommendation to Ed is, just stay off it,'' Shanahan said Wednesday. ``He can do some things in the weight room that doesn't keep the pressure on like it does working out on the field.''

McCaffrey missed most of the 2001 season after breaking his leg in the first game, but bounced back to catch 69 passes for 903 yards last year.

McCaffrey had eight catches for 73 in six games before sitting out against Minnesota and Baltimore.

Shanahan said he would have no problem playing McCaffrey without seeing him in practice.

It's also a waiting game for linebacker John Mobley, who was temporarily paralyzed in Sunday's game against Baltimore.

Shanahan said team doctors will wait until next Wednesday to perform an MRI exam so the swelling in his spinal cord can go down.

Mobley was injured Sunday when he collided with Baltimore's Jamal Lewis and teammate Kelly Herndon. He lay motionless on the field for about 10 minutes before moving his hands as he was carted off the field.

Mobley spent Sunday night in a Baltimore hospital and initial tests came back negative.

Jay, just saw your question. No, I don't bet Oakland every week. I did bet on them to win the Superbowl, though.

I took K.C. against the Raiders, it was my un-official play of the year.

Patriots feeling sky high
With vacation looming, they focus on Denver
By Michael Smith, Globe Staff, 11/3/2003

DENVER -- It's been said that 90 percent of the game is half mental. That's 100 percent true of tonight's "Monday Night Football" game between the Patriots and Broncos at Invesco Field at Mile High.

The Patriots have a lot on their minds besides complex schemes and innovative game plans. There's a list of things they have to remind themselves to forget. More stuff they can't afford to forget to remember. Other things they have to be mindful to ignore. Understood?

New England is coming up on its bye week, and Bill Belichick has done his best to make certain his players don't overlook the struggling, beaten-up Broncos (losers of three of four, all those losses on the road) while looking forward to their well-deserved vacation and suffer a letdown and a 12th loss in 13 trips to Denver. Just as Miami in Miami was motivation in and of itself, likewise, Belichick has the team focused on "Denver in Denver." Yet while the Patriots have won four straight, they struggled, particularly on offense, with the Giants and Browns. Pay attention to how sharp they are to begin tonight's game.

Win a fifth consecutive game, and it promises to be a pleasant two weeks at Gillette Stadium leading up to the Sunday night showdown with Bill Parcells's Cowboys. Go into the bye on a losing note, and the happy feelings of the last month go bye-bye.

During their Super Bowl season, the Patriots went into their open week riding a five-game winning streak. Last year, they had to wait two weeks to try to snap a three-game skid. They failed, dropping a fourth consecutive game -- to Denver. "The thing about losing, it's on your mind all week," offensive lineman Damien Woody said. "So imagine three, four weeks of being just miserable."

Give Belichick credit for practicing what he preached. "I'm not thinking about the bye week," he snapped Friday. "I don't really know when the bye week is and I don't really care when it is. It's Denver in Denver. We haven't talked about it. We haven't thought about it. We haven't given it two minutes worth of thought.

"I said one thing [to the team]. I said, `I don't want to hear anything about it.' Let's talk about Denver, that's it. That was the extent of it. I don't want to talk about that. I don't want to talk about Dallas. I don't want to talk about Miami. I don't want to talk about the Jets. I don't want to talk about Jacksonville. I don't want to talk about anything other than Denver. There's nothing else."

Nothing gets players hyped quite like "Monday Night Football." Al Michaels. John Madden. National television. Great. Now forget about it, was Belichick's directive. Remember, Denver in Denver. Thus there was minimal talk last week about the bright lights. Almost as minimal as the talk about the Broncos' home-field advantage or the Denver altitude. As far as the Patriots are concerned, they're playing in a vacuum, and they avoided being sucked into discussion about anything other than the opponent.

"[`MNF'] throws you into a little bit of a different routine," Belichick said. "It's something that we have done here a couple of times a year for the last couple of years, so I think we're used to a little bit of a change in the routine. Denver in Denver. That's about as tough as it gets."

The Patriots have had a difficult time with the Broncos the last two years, losing 31-20 at Invesco two years ago and 24-16 at Gillette last year. A lot has changed with those guys, though. Danny Kanell is the quarterback. Ed McCaffrey is questionable with a quadriceps injury. Instead of Ian Gold and John Mobley, the Broncos are lining up with Donnie Spragan and Jashon Sykes at linebacker. But forget about it they must, and remember Clinton Portis, Rod Smith, and Trevor Pryce.

They're keeping in mind what the Broncos have done to them lately -- keeping it in the backs of their minds. Last year's film? Still on the shelf.

"We didn't look at that game at all," said wide receiver Deion Branch, who'll be asked to pick up the slack if Troy Brown (doubtful, leg) sits. "I think going into this game, Coach wanted to put that behind us. Different team. It's a new year. Personnel is different on the field. He just wanted to make sure we didn't get caught up in that."

You guys are way overthinking this. Pats are the better team. They have been dominant against the run. Do you think it will be hard for NE to figure out Denver's offensive game play this week? If Denver can't run, then what? If it's a trap, they got me. I'll take the Pats and the points.

My initial lean was certainly towards the Pats, but after considering how Denver almost beat the Vikings in Minnesota(without Plummer), had Moss not flipped the ball on that hail mary play they probably win.(Kanell actually played better than Beulerien that game).

Now you have Denver playing at home, against a depleted NE defense, with the public leaning towards the short dog, after a weekend which saw the public getting absolutely hammered. Which leads to alot of people who will be chasing by going against a team playing their 3rd string QB thinking their getting the easy $$. I'm thinking they are probably wrong.

But then again i could be wrong

Gotta play Denver as a small home fav, with a solid defense and superior running game, home crowd will really be rocking. Hopefully Brady has an off night and a couple of Int's.

GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE

Denver will not loose 3 in a row, Denver will not loose tonite at home. How can you bet against them after they crushed a shitty Detroit team 20-16, with the snake at QB at home. I'm trying think positive. To many back doors this season, that's why I'm taking the Bronco's tonite, coach is hungry and it's monday night football, goodluck to all and to all a good nite. IT'S MARTINI TIME. Jumbo over and out.
