Turner Gill would be the perfect fit. Forget about him not having SEC ties or SEC experience (see Urban Meyer at Bowling Green and Utah; Nick Saban at Toledo and Mich. St.).

that was exactly my point earlier. both those guys needed to step up in competition (Big 10 and MWC) to get ready for the SEC. MAC to SEC? lol, bring him on!!

A name that was thrown out there today was Jack Del Rio. Im not sure how he would fit, but any other pro coaches out there make since?

Romeo and Zorn will be looking for jobs if AU is interested :103631605

I hear you SD, you hit the nail on the head with Tubs. Im hearing a lot of good stuff about Gill. Still though, it's a bigger gamble because Buffalo is no Ole Miss, Utah, or Mich St. So I think there is a bigger risk there.

Furmanski, I would disagree a little with on your list. I think I would have UF, LSU, UGA, UA, UT, AU. I think UF and LSU have the easiest recruiting with big fan bases and money. UGA owns the state, has good recruiting grounds, and a good program overall. UA has tradition and money, but I think the fan base and expectations are a detractor. I may be delusional but for people 30 and younger, AU isn't UA's little bro, only old geezer fucks who brain wash their kids who try to keep that shit going. UT is high profile, owns the state, and pumps in a bunch a dough, but their recruiting grounds are all screwed up.

Yea, maybe the pat nix momentum has slowed the past two years. But shit, it's light years better than what AU's had.

Yes, Buffalo was dreadful before Gill got there, but let's not get carried away with Gill. Coaching in the SEC is a lot different than coaching in the MAC. There are a lot of good coaches in the SEC. This would be a huge step up for Gill. He would have a much better chance of winning by coaching at Syracuse. At least he knows that area and can recruit there and the competition is not as difficult.

Spurrier just may be at least considering this job very, very seriously. Just look at the dates of this thing. This is exactly the timing of Tubby stepping down. I think SOS is the big name they are really after and if he decides against it, then I think they hire Turner Gill with Pat Nix and Rodney Garner on his staff. Call me crazy, but this is the deal.

Give me a damn break. Every damn time there is a coaching vacancy in the SEC, SOS is always "one of the leading candidates." First it was Bama before they hired Satan, then Tenn earlier TY, and now Auburn. Regardless of how bad SoCar sucks this year, and has sucked, I don't think SOS will be making anymore moves, he's getting too old for that shit, and would much rather stay at SoCar and attempt to do something that has never been done before.

Spurrier is done. The reason is because a lot of today's players like to be babied and pampered and SS doesn't strike as that type of person or coach.

I know Saban is not that way, but Saban has had success at both levels (Browns DC led league in feweset points allowed after taking over a team that ranked 30th the previous year). I also believe that Saban is more respected in the coaching circles, just my opinion.

What? Are you saying he is "done" at SoCar? If so...first of all, what do players being babied have to do with his current players at SoCar? That isn't happening, has not happened and will not happen. Second, if you are saying he is done at SoCar, and the reason you listed is obviously not true, then cite your source - why is he done?

WALA in Mobile is reporting that Muschamp is the new coach. Yahoo and ESPN have latched on to the story, reporting the same but saying it's from a TV station in Mobile

This search has been a clusterf**k from the start. Firing Tuberville to hire one of these other guys is idiotic and smacks of booster interference. The school deserves what they get for allowing it to happen. Good for the students and others to protest Tubby's treatment. I don't like Tubs for personal reasons, but he's a damn good coach.

Will Muschamp will not be the next coach at Auburn

By Tony Barnhart | Friday, December 12, 2008, 08:55 AM

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

We are about to face one of the darkest Saturdays of the fall. Except for the playoffs, there is no college football. The beginning of the bowl season is still a week away. Ugh.

But that doesn’t mean we can’t make predictions. I went 3-2 last week because I picked Boston College to beat Virginia Tech in the ACC championship (I should never doubt Frank Beamer) and I picked Tulsa’s high-flying offense to beat East Carolina in the Conference USA championship. My pick of Florida over Alabama in the SEC championship was looking pretty bleak when the fourth quarter started. But the Gators had No. 15 (Tim Tebow). So we end the season with a record of 95-50.

I made a lot of wrong picks this season, but looking back I only made one REALLY dumb pick and that was Georgia over Florida. Georgia was coming off a road game at LSU, who we now know was not very good, and Florida was coming off a serious beat-down over Kentucky and was playing lights out.

So here are a few predictions that should get you through the weekend:

1. Will Muschamp will not the be the next coach at Auburn: I just got off the phone with Will Muschamp, the defensive coordinator and head coach in waiting at Texas. He emphatically shot down television reports in Mobile that he would be the named the next coach at Auburn today.

“I have not talked to Auburn about this job and I have no interest in the job,” said Muschamp. “I really don’t know what else to say. I’m going to stay at Texas until they fire me.”

My sources tell me that some Board of Trustee members did pick up the phone and call Muschamp to find out if he was interested. But those sources also tell me that when Muschamp was at Auburn as DC, he and athletics director Jay Jacobs did not part on the best of terms.

Like I said, I'll believe it when I see it official. It sounds awful familiar to what one of his old bosses said two years ago though huh?

I hope Auburn hires Gene Chizik, he would do great things at Auburn and be a much better choice for Auburn than Muschamp. It would be funny if Iowa St. turned around and hired Turner Gill, even funnier if Gill started whooping Pellini every year. Although Pellini wouldn't last very long if that were to take place.

"Cracka" would have been OK, but "cracker" is horribly wrong. Now you've got a 23-year-old pimp offended.

I hope you're happy for all the trouble you've cause, bellyputter.
