do you suppose that if Canadians changed the 'base currency' in their NETeller account to CAD that cheques could be processed?

Canadian here, with a US$ NETeller account linked to a Canadian C$ bank account.

EFT requested: Feb 02 18:55
Arrived in Canadian bank: Feb 06, 2007

Continuing to have no problems using my NETeller account for anything.

SS, I suspected that was your problem when I asked, in another thread, whether you requested checks in USD.

Obviously any USD check has to clear through the US bank they use and that bank has been notified not to accept those checks.

I did receice a check from them last thursday, and cashed it, so far no problems.... but its possible that once that particular check processor was empty they now have more problems....

Great news, these are EXACTLY the kind of updates I am looking for in this thread.

In that case there would be no problem since they would be CAN $ checks.

The issue seems to be Canadians with USD accounts can easily get EFTs in CAN but USD checks are a problem, likely the NETeller account is nearly dry and cannot be replenished.

I see no reason to continue to maintain a NETeller account in USD given the 1.9% exchange. In fact to avoid exchange charges my NETeller account is tied to a US bank, which I need to change when I get back from winter vacation.

Of course not all books allow CAN $ accounts, in particular 5Dimes, Matchbook and WSEX, while Betfair, Olympic, Pinny and Mansion allow CAN $ accounts.

be careful woody, many books claim to offer Canadian accounts, but at the end of the day they do not have "true canadian processing".....

what I mean by this is if you, for example, make a deposit to your bookie via Canadian Credit Card, into your Canadian sports book account.... the charge will still appear on your credit card in USD, and the bookie will do the conversion. I have found this to be the case with most bookies....

one exception is Bet365, they have "true Canadian Processing" so once you deposit via credit card over there, the charge actually appears on your statement as a Candian Dollar charge.

So if you have a Can$ NT account and open an acct at 5dimes,etc what happens? Do they do the conversion for you to US dollars?

Yes, and you lose on the exchange rate on transactions back
and forth from Neteller. That is why long ago i had my Neteller
account changed from Canadian to USD. Now they refuse to
change it back or to another currency. But if Neteller ever had
a problem sending me a USD check, they could send me the
equivalent in Canadian dollars.

I imagine Neteller and players alike will now encourage sportsbooks to pick another currency (Can$ or Euros) as their main one now...

exactly the same reason why I cancelled my Candian neteller account long ago and switched it to USD.....

continuously paying exchange rates between neteller and bookies is enough to eat up your profits.....

This is also why (in the past) I always had Neteller send me a check in USD for 2$ via regular mail.... This way I could keep the funds in USD or shop for the best exchange rate myself..... If I got the EFT from neteller, I was subject to their exchange rate, on top of a 1.9% fee that they add on top their exchange rate.... this was a killer.

It looks like I may have no choice but to use EFT's going forward tho? :ughhh:

for the time being I have nothing in neteller....

Exactly why I opened my account in USD, linked it to a US bank and could take a 30 minute drive to my bank if I needed to get the cash. Sadly that's all gone.

What exchange rate does NETeller use?

im not 100% sure, but when you go through the process of requesting an EFT from a USD Neteller account to a Canadian dollar acount, it tells you what exchange rate they use, where its from, and that they charge 1.9% extra on top of the exchange rate.....

I cant double check right now because my neteller account is empty.

Ill update here when If I figure it out.

woody you had your Neteller account linked to a USA bank?

I tried to have Neteller link to my USD account at TD canda trust but it would never work, they could only send to my regular canadian account it would seem.

"What exchange rate does NETeller use?"

My recent EFT was for US$2000 and I received C$2,309.

I had a cheque pending that I cancelled. Requested an EFT instead on Monday. It's in my bank account now.

Yes, a major US bank in a small border town.

Before verifying my account I called and learned that they could not link my USD account to a USD account at a Canadian bank, but they could link it to a bank outside the country. Those were simpler days when NETeller was headquartered in Calgary.
