You break the law- you pay for the crime- simple as that. Quit trying to get out of it or around it.

Ok, great......let's open this train of thought to include giving fines to people who fail to signal a turn because their turn signal bulb just went out. Quit trying to get out of it or around it.

Headlight goes out: Driving without lights or reckless driving. Quit trying to get out of it or around it.

If you're in a strange town and a stopsign is missing, give that stranger a ticket for running a stopsign. Quit trying to get out of it or around it, and then go home you fvcking foreigner.

And if it's a genuine emergency and someone's grandmother is bleeding to death in the woods, just forget about speeding her to the hospital, let the b1tch lay amongst the trees and die. Quit trying to get out of it or around it. The old b1tch deserved it anyway.

If I was trying to get out of a crime I knowingly or intentionally committed then it'd be a different story. Driving with a speedometer that isn't displaying the speed correctly amounts to the crime of simply being mislead by faulty equipment. To the best of my knowledge this speedometer problem started that very same day I was driving my car.

I've had occasions where I was in a hurry, intentionally sped, and received a ticket for it. Those occasions I just accepted the outcome and consequences, paid the fine and moved on.

i had a similar experience before.... with my old car, speedometer wasn't working at all and i got pulled over on the way to mechanic to change the speedometer. i was like 5 miles over the speed limit and he still gave me a ticket. so i went to court with paper works from mechanic and they still made me pay for the ticket....

If you haven't had a ticket in 3 years, Just call the DA's office in that county and plead guilty and waive your court appearance. The guy may have cut you some slack in not giving you 10 miles or over.

If you have had a ticket in the last 3years, get an attorney and ask for a PJC (Prayer for Judgement continued). You will have to pay court cost. You only need an attorney if you need to drop it 9 miles or less over the speed limit. You will have to stay ticket free for a couple of years or they will pick up your most recent tcket as well.

Bummer, but it could have been worse

This may be an urban legend but have heard this more than once.

Over pay when you mail your check, write it for like $10 over the amount of the fine and they will send you back the 10 bucks and you never cash it and it never gets logged and your insurance will never find out?

Never had a ticket since I heard of this so don't know if it works or not but worth a try.

Doesn't work in Washington State. This much I know.

Go to court and fight the ticket. When you see the judge ask the officer to produce paperwork on when the last time the "Gun" was calibrated.

That hasn't worked in the last 10 years or so, at least not down here. One of the first things cops do is tell the court when the equipment was last calibrated. They all do it on a regular basis, any law enforcement car with radar is required to stay within department guidelines.

Also like someone else said faulty equipment is no excuse, hell that's what the officer is trying to keep off the streets in the first place. The judge will probably tell the officer good job for getting this man a ticket. Like the ignorance of the law excuse, faulty equipment will not give you any sort of immunity.

You might try and go to court though, it is true that officers will not always show up and then the case is dismissed. Happened to me once when I was ticketed for racing. Other than that you have no leg to stand on IMHO. Let us know what you decide and how it turns out.

Look up " Ticket Fixers" in your area. You should be able to hire an attorney who will go to court for you, they work some deal with the judge to get it reduced to a parking ticket. It won't be reported to your insurance, and the fine is like $25. Attorney cost =$100 or thereabouts.

Some good reading.... The Adventures in Legal Land by Marc Stevens. Very funny, the truth hurts though.

Paperwork for a test on your speedometer from 2-3 different KNOWN mechanics in your area would work for you. You just cannot purchase a cable.

Legwork, but has helped out many that I know. Its very hard for an indivual to know if his speedo. is working slow.

If they find a problem and fix it, take it to court with you. Otherwise plead guilty and pay the fine, the DA should remove any points for you. Unless you have a poor record.

Whenever you get pulled over don't say a word! Sign the ticket and then fight it! Remember they will write any comments on your ticket to remember if they need to fight it if you take it to court etc.

**Always do a written declaration if allowed in your state. A written declaration allows for you to contest it by giving an explanation to what happened and allows for you to dispute the ticket in writing. Look for an excuse that gives the judge probable cause to throw out the ticket. (I just recently fought a ticket this way and won, so they refunded my bail money of $285 for going 85 MPH on the freeway in a 65 hour zone).

You will beat the ticket if the officer doesn't also give a written declaration or you've created enough doubt for the judge to rule in your favor. There is 30-40% chance they won't even contest it because they are too lazy to write it up!

Secondly, if you lose the written declaration you can ask to contest the ticket in court. This will give you another opportunity for the officer not to show. If the officer doesn't show you also win.

You can google on the internet the best excuses based on your ticket to win a written declaration. Don't pay someone to do it! Research it yourself and do it. It's simple and there's a good chance you'll beat the ticket!

Sorry but a written declaration is only allowed in nine states!!

**STATES WHERE TRIAL BY DECLARATION IS ALLOWED:
California, Florida, Hawaii, Indiana, Louisiana, Nebraska, Ohio, Oregon, Wyoming
