C-19 is much more infectious & has killed way more people in the USA than a typical flu season (even with extreme lockdown measures etc having been taken), so way more of a concern, especially since it is a relatively unknown virus, which means we don't yet know how damaging it may be, such as in the long term negative health effects to survivors of an infection, whether a vaccine will ever come, whether people will often be reinfected again and again, if such reinfections will become progressively worse, etc, etc, etc.
Like the flu it's a death sentence if one dies from it, as many are.
We know 2 years of lockdowns and economic shuttering will kill hundreds of millions of people globally. The UN knows that as well.
We also know Coronavirus won't kill anywhere near that amount.
So we know for a fact that the response to this is worse than the disease itself.

IMO it's highly improbable that an economic widespread lockdown would last 2 years. In fact the more widespread lockdown of weeks ago has been over for a while now. Almost everywhere now they have have lessor partial lockdowns & plans to reduce that even further before long till things are "back to normal" minus certain safety precautions, e.g. masks. The sooner the vast majority masks up & acts responsibly, the sooner "back to normal" arrives. Otherwise the yo-yo effect may continue.
