Pittsburgh -12.5 over Morehead State

MOREHEAD STATE (5-2)isranked 17th in the nation in scoring defense (59.9) and has
only one of their top six players is taller than 6-5 .They have a plus-9.1 rebound margin and rank 12th in the nation with 15.7 offensive boards per game. Junior guard Corban Collins leads the team with 11.9 points, 3.1 assists and 28.9 minutes per game.

PITTSBURGH (7-1) is led by Michael Young, the junior who averages 17.1 points, 8.3 rebounds and 4.1 assists while shooting 61.4 percent from the floor. Pitts has a strong bench with Jamel Artis and Chris Jones contributing a lot. The Pitt Panthers have seven other players 6-6 or taller who average over 10 minutes per game.

Pitt is plus-10.4 in rebounding margin and holds opponents to 37.1 percent shooting.

Morehead State lost at Indiana 92-59 on Dec. 5[SUP]th[/SUP] and was behind 50-26 at the half and had 16 first half turnovers and 23 for the game. They lost their other away game 67-66 to Illinois State (3-5) back on Nov. 16[SUP]th[/SUP]
Pittsburg’s only lost was to at the time 11[SUP]th[/SUP] ranked Purdue at home 72-59 and at the half the score was Purdue leading 29-26. The Pitt Panthers were up 44-43 with 12:21 to play. Purdue’s freshman guard Ryan cline came in and hit 3 consecutive 3’s to give Purdue the spark to pull away and win this game from this point.
MY TAKE
Pittsburgh’s wins all came against similar talented lower mid major teams ( the same caliber as Morehead state) such as Detroit, St. Johns (not a mid major), Duquesne, Kent State & Eastern Washington. Margins of victories over these teams were by 41, 16, 9, 19 and 33 points. This shows me that Pittsburgh is consistent in its play and performance against smaller less talented opponents. Their defensive intensity stays solid throughout the game against these type teams.

I look for Pittsburgh size advantage especially on the front line to over whelm Morehead State in the second half and for them to win by 16 to 21 points.

Yesterday I went 2-1 however I lost 1.1 units. I lost my 3 unit wager on Pittsburgh as they let up off the gas against Morehead State.
Note* I will be really tracking
[FONT=Georgia, Times New Roman, Times, serif]Morehead State as they travel to play at Eastern Washington on Thursday Dec. 17th and then they travel back across country (home) to play Western Carolina at home on Dec. 20th and then they travel and play Davidson on Dec. 23rd. I will be watching and waiting for the lines on these games as I feel I can pick up a few units wagering against Morehead State if the lines are what I expect.

[/FONT]I'll be bask with a few plays.

I wanted to play Okl St but backed down. They have beat me a couple of times so I'm a little gun shy with that team. If they ever were going to get a big win I would think it would be tonight. Wiscy needs to get going as I can't even begin to remember the last time they lost two straight games at home to non conf opponents.

good luck tonight

Last night I went 4-3 but lost 2.3 units as Cincinnati and Texas were just happy to get the "W". I have to keep notes on these two performances for next year as Texas was off that huge win over North Carolina on the last second shot and then played Appalachian State flat and was going through the motions. Cincy had exerted a lot of emotion and energy into playing cross town rival Xavier and came up sort and then jut like Texas did they Played Norfolk State with very little emotion or energy and was just happy to get a win. I will keep grinding. I feel that if this was conference play that the coaches and staffs could have gotten better performances from these two teams but by both teams playing out of conference teams with much less & lower talent ............the coaches could no inspire them not matter what they said or did. Lesson learned..... Notes taken and written down.

Todays plays

S Mary's-20 over So. Utah..... for 3 units

So.Utah (3-5) (1-4 ats) has won it s last 3 games over LaVerne 105-85……over Utah valley 68-54 and Bristol University 79-41. They have played substantially less competition than St. Mary’s has.

ST. Mary’ has only played one game away from home all season, their loss to Cal, but they are undefeated at Home (McKeon Pavilion).

As a team, St. Mary’s rank second in all of NCAA Division I in fewest turnovers, and third in assist to turnover ratio. They also have the fourth highest field goal percentage in the country and fifth highest three-point percentage.

This is what Southern Utah’s coach said about St Mary’s team ………“They’re big,” Robinson said about the Gaels. “They’re extremely skilled, they work very well together and they’ve defended their home court extremely well, so we’ve got a tough challenge ahead of us, but we’ve been in similar environments against teams that are somewhat similar, so we’re going to have to come out and play well.”

My take
I really like St Mary's (7-1) (6-0 ATS) tonight. St. Marys has 6 Australians on it s team and when Aussies are fortunate enough to come to the US and play college ball they generally stay in school for mall m4 years and they all have big motors and play hard for 40 minutes. They have no quit, in them and they are very coachable. Most of them are not nearly as talented a American players but like most Europeans they are sound fundamentally where as American players rely on pure talent and athleticism much more than learning basic fundamentals.

Look at Cleveland Cavalier Guard Matthew Dellaedova .....How many American 6'4 or bigger Guards have been all Americans or do possess or have more natural ability, are more talented, better shooters and their skill set is much better then Dellaevdova but are not in the NBA because they are maybe not as coachable or don't possess the work ethic or are not willing to work and learn as eagerly as these Australians are.

St. Marys is loaded with them and I like wagering on this team. To me this game has blow out written all over it.

St Marys is shooting the ball “scary well” 53.6 %fg, 68.7% ft, and 46.9 from 3 pt range.

I won last night as the game went exactly as I capped. These rarely happens when a game goes exactly as I had it capped and analysised .............. but I can say its a good feeling.
when it does happen. St. Mary's and the Aussies crushed the smaller So.Utah team.

I'll have at least one game I'll play today.

Marshall +21.5 over West Virginia for 3 units

One of the nation’s top in-state rivalries takes center stage Thursday as No. 16 West Virginia (8-1SU) (5-1 ATS)faces Marshall ( 3-6 SU) (2-6 ATS) in the annual Chesapeake Energy Capital Classic in Charleston, West Virginia ( a neutral site) . “It’s a whole different game,” Mountaineers guard Jaysean Paige told reporters. “Marshall-West Virginia is real big, it’s like a Super Bowl game.”
West Virginia has won four consecutive games in the series and eight of nine overall, but Marshall enters the contest on a three-game winning streak after rolling to a 92-73 victory Monday over North Carolina Central.

Marshall averages nearly 30 shots from 3-point range but might need to adjust its approach against West Virginia, which leads the country in 3-point field goal percentage defense at 22.4. The Mountaineers forced 24 turnovers in last season’s 69-66 victory over Marshall and figures to bring plenty of pressure again Thursday.

Marshall Forward Ryan Taylor scored a career-high 27 points against North Carolina Central to move within seven points of becoming the 50th 1,000-point scorer in school history. Coach Dan D’Antoni, who drew attention after last season’s Capital Classic for claiming that West Virginia might be “afraid” to face Marshall, continues to be encouraged by the play of forward James Kelly, who has recorded three double-doubles in his last four games. Point guard Jon Elmore provided a spark in his season debut Monday against North Carolina Central with five points, three assists and a steal in 18 minutes.

Marshall coach Dan D'Antoni is the older brother of Lakers coach Mike D'Antoni. He spent the past two seasons on the Lakers' staff and has had stints as an assistant with the Phoenix Suns and New York Knicks. Dan D'Antoni played four seasons at Marshall, leading the Thundering Herd in scoring in 1968-69 at 17.5 points per game

WVU has played these 3 teams on neutral courts and beat James Madison 86-73 , beat Richmond 67-59 , crushed SDSU 72-50 and lost to Virginia 70-54. WVU has had 4 days rest last winning over Louisiana Monroe on Dec. 13th 100-58. West Virginia made a season-high 15 3-pointers against Louisiana Monroe

Jevon Carter is averaging 12.4 points while forward Devin Williams is tied for eighth nationally in double-doubles entering Wednesday with six to lead the fast-paced Mountaineers, who are scoring 85.9 points per game and forcing opponents to turn it over on 30 percent of their possessions.
Fourteen of the last 17 meetings have been decided by 10 points or fewer, including two overtime contests. 56% of the betting public are on WVU.

My take
This is Marshall’s super Bowl, Marshall is not going to any post season games and more than likely they will have a losing season, this will be there NCAA tournament type game and they will play above their capabilities and beyond their talent level. They will some way some how keep this game with 21.5 points. I got this number when it first opened. It’s now down to 20.5

St. John’s -7.5 (7-3 SU) (3-4-3 ATS) takes on Incarnate Word (3-5 SU (1-0 ATS) at Home.
Chris Mullin’s young inexperienced team comes into this game off of a stunning victory over an experienced Syracuse squad at the packed Madison Square Garden last Sunday behind shot-blocking fresh).

Friday's game will be played at Carnesecca Arena, where St. John's is 4-0 and has not allowed more than 59 points

St John’s is led by the menacing tandem of Yankuba Sima of Spain, and Mali's Kassoum Yakwe, the Red Storm ranked third in the nation at seven blocks per game entering Thursday. Yakwe, a highly touted freshman who was cleared by the NCAA four games ago, scored a career-high 15 points in 23 minutes against the Orange and averages 2.8 blocks while Sima swats 3.6 shots per game. Federico Mussini, who leads the team in scoring at 14.3, paced five players in double figures for the second time this season against Syracuse with 17 points while team with fellow freshman Sima to account for 37.1 percent of the team's overall scoring
men Yankuba Sima and Kassoum Yakwe .

Chris Mullinm said ….“I truly believe this team can keep getting better,” Mullin said after the upset. “[A win] like this is really important for the guys. It shows them that there is more there, but we have to do it together.”
Tonight presents a much bigger challenge, to follow up that defining victory over Syracuse with an equally-as-sharp performance against lesser programs Incarnate Word on Friday and then NJIT on Sunday both at Carnesecca Arena, games that will be missing the same excitement and hype as the Syracuse game.
St. John’s first 10 games have demonstrated, that will be no easy feat. After a thrilling, come-from-behind win over Rutgers, St. John’s (7-3) was beaten up by Vanderbilt in the Maui Invitational. After closing the tournament strong, nearly upsetting Indiana and beating Division III Chaminade, Mullin’s team was a no-show at Fordham, losing by 16 points. And it followed that loss by barely surviving against underwhelming opponents St. Francis Brooklyn and Niagara.
Incarnate Word is a tiny school from San Antonio, Texas out of the Southland Conference.
The Incarnate Word Cardinals is in only its 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] year of Division1 ball. They turned heads in their first year in Division I last season, knocking off Nebraska and earning a berth into the CollegeInsider.com tournament
Incarnate Word suffered their 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] consecutive lost to an NAIA school “Our Lady of The Lake 99-97 on Dec.15 at home across town school.. Their lone wins this season have come against Division III member Texas Lutheran and Schreiner and NJCAA member Dallas Christian. Sophomore guard Johntrell Walker (team-best 16.5 points per game) has scored in double figures in every game for the Cardinals including 28 last time out.
My Take
We all have heard this expression….. “IN THIS SPOT” well I really like St. John’s ….” in this spot”.

Here are to teams trending in opposite directions. St. Johns catches an Incarnate Word team in only its second year of D-1 ball coming in on downward spiral as low as you can get by losing to an NAIA school and losing 3 straight. Now they have to travel to New York and play a St. Johns team ascending and climbing with all the confidence in the world after their recent victory over Syracuse.

What can the Incarnate Coaching Staff do or say to instill enough confidence in their team to travel and compete and get for us bettors a “(cover +7.5)” over St. Johns? How can they rally the troops? There are defeats in sports that stay with you longer than others. There are Victories that stay with you longer than others.

Can the St. Johns team come back to earth quick enough to play good ball to get us the Cover? or does Incarnate Words defeat to the small NAIA school linger on and devastate this team and render them to be unable to recover quick enough to compete against St. John’s.

I am betting that St. John’s will play at a level with confidence to continue to “ROLL” and easily get us a win and cover over this struggling program.

“I LIKE THIS SPOT”
My Play
St. John’s -7.5
