The worst player on the field was the Qb and coach decides to let him try to pick up a 4th and 5 instead of a fg to go up by 5. Still amazes me how these guys get paid millions to be dumbasses

pretty sure he was being sarcastic

I hope so. Just can't wrap my head around this one.

I put a lot of time and effort into handicapping games and try to think of every conceivable angle for whether or not to make a play. I weigh a number of factors before making a decision. Apparently, now I have to add "Will the coach I back make a completely brain-dead decision that will have a direct effect on the outcome?" to the list.

If I lose a game because I just flat out read it wrong? Whatever, I can live with that. Losing one like this is tough to stomach, especially since I was also on that BYU debacle yesterday.

That's right. Completely ignore the fact that SDSU was only in a position to cover because of three fumbles and a muffed punt. I'm sure that's exactly how you drew it up ...

Oh. Why didn't you say so?

So the coach must have said to himself "Hey we're only here because of four turnovers. So that means I should make a decision no other coach would in this spot." Great logic...I wish I had asked you sooner!

That's like folding the nut hand after the table sees the river card because an opponent of yours made mistakes by not betting.

Newsflash: turnovers are a part of the game. They happen and can't be predicted. Coaching decisions, on the other hand, shouldn't be this absurdly unpredictable.

You people are FUNNY. Was it a bad decision not kick a FG? Sure. Did it cost SDSU the win or cover? Who the fuck knows? If we assume that SDSU kicks the FG and then everything else happens as it did --- BIG FUCKING ASSUMPTION --- until the 1:33 mark, then Navy has a first and ten from the SDSU 13 at that point. And they obviously can't settle for a FG. We may well have ended right where we did, with SDSU having a FG attempt to win but not cover --- and missing.

It was a decision that no other coach would have made. That is why everyone is trying to figure out what this moron was thinking. No one in their right mind does what he did especially when your Qb sucks

No one can say with 100% certainty whether that decision ultimately cost SDSU the game...but I'll say it played a huge role in their loss.

Navy had 14 pts at that moment in the game. This wasn't some crazy ass 100-pt shootout where both offenses were scoring at will...and coming away with three pts would have been almost as bad as coming up empty. Had it been a 50-plus yard attempt, I'd have understood a punt. Had it been 4th and inches, I may have even understood going for it. But nothing about the decision makes any sense. Even if the kicker had missed in that spot, it's obviously far less damaging than missing one in the last few seconds.

Imagine the reaction if Navy had gone for 4th down instead of kicking what proved to be the game-winning FG...and come up short. SDSU's decision not to go up by 5 was on that level of stupid...especially with their kicker having had a pretty accurate season.

Navy may have called different plays knowing they needed a TD instead of a FG.

Also, BYU losing wasn't a debacle. Memphis was the clear right side, BYU was in the game because of gifts.
